Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtisí old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours opaque dark brown with a thin tan head that leaves very thin lace. The nose is roasted coffee, dusty dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, and maple. The flavor is the same with the cinnamon more prominent, and plenty of pleasant roasted coffee bitterness. The body is full with medium minus carbonation and a long cinnamon, coffee, and dark chocolate finish.

22oz bottle, big thanks to beerpig317 for sharing! Bottle reads 12/2/2009. Dark brown, near black color. Minimal head or lace. Awesome big roasty, dark chocolate aroma. Wonderful espresso nose. Nice earthy, dark chocolately bitterness. Light sour taste. Great mocha, chocolate, espresso aftertaste. Some brownie. A lot of tannic, but doesnít really bother me here. Works well with the aroma. Very nice, complex, dark earthy red wine notes that work great with the roasty espresso aftertaste. Very complex dark malts. Light sourness works well here. Super tasty stuff. Way better than expected, especially considering the age.

22oz bottle. 12/12 2009 54 / 156. Poured a dark black color with brown edges and a small sized off white head. Coffee, cinnamon (lighter and not over-powering), wood, and just a trace of bourbon.

Pours unclear brownish black coffee with a small tannish ring for a head. Aroma has maintained the coffee and cinnamon after a few years of aging, awesome! Flavor brings a nice balance of sweet coffee roasted malts and some cinnamon candy in the background.

22 oz. bottle via trade with Puddintane- thanks again, Dave! Bottled 12/2/2009, #28/156. Pours a deep brown color with a tiny tan ring for a head. Aroma of super dry roasted malts, oaky funk, dark berries, and chocolate. Flavor of cola, grapes, berries, caramel, toast, and oak. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a dry, tangy mouthfeel. The coffee and cinnamon have mostly died out. Not bad. Interesting.

Pours pitch black with a very thin tan head that quickly disappears to nothing. The aroma is very roasty, nice coffee with chocolate and cinnamon. The flavor is very strange, it starts sweet and roasty with a suprising amount of cinnamon, the flavor finishes with a bit of green apple tartness. Nice full body here with a suprising amount of carbonation left, great cinnamon finish.

22 ounce bottle from AmEricanBrew, poured a dark black color with very little carbonation. Aromas of coffee, light bourbon, and subtle cinnamon. Flavors are the same, coffee is the main act, with subtle notes of cinnamon and bourbon. Probably should of drank a year ago, probably would have had more carbonation in it, still a great beer, just wish it had a smidge of carbonation in it.

4 oz. sampler at JOís 6th Anniversary. I made damn good review notes, but then I lost them. Bear with me on this. 3.5 A: Black color. Came without a head. 3.5 S: The cinnamon has persisted in this one. I canít say the same about the coffee. As for the stouts, they are quite tame now. Very soft roastiness with a touch of peat. Even less chocolate. 3.0 T: This isnít sour, nor is it really tart, but thereís something sourish about this brew. Itís like a tart butterscotch for lack of a better descriptor. That said, this brew isnít bad, but it isnít good either and it certainly doesnít taste much like what itís allegedly made of. Cinnamon and roast can be found in the taste. The bourbon, on the other hand, barely shows up or perhaps it is the bourbon that is showing up as the funky goofiness above. 3.0 M: A little on the lighter side. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking the creaminess that I want. 3.0 D: This is probably the worst of a series that isnít all that impressive overall anyway. Oh well, like all JOís brews, Iím happy to have tried it. Poured on draft into a sampler glass. Appearance is a dark brown, near black with a khaki colored head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is loaded with chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon. In the taste, the cinnamon plays nicely in the coffee and chocolate making a nicely rounded out beer. The bourbon doesnít play much of a role here at all, which is fine with me.
