Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: The beer pours a clear dark amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, malt and wood. Full-bodied with flavors of mildly tart cherry, oak, caramel and toasted malt. The finish is fruity with a slight bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

22oz bottle courtesy of goryshkewych. Cheers, George. Pours a deep mahogany color with a tan head. Nose is sweet malt, lots of honey, bourbon, some light oak, sweet cherries, tart cherries, and vanilla. Flavor is similar- oak, caramel, and honey up front, sweet and tart cherries in the mid woth some bourbon and oak, finished off by tart cherries, oak, and mild bourbon. Nice wheat wine that improves as it warms. No idea that it is 12%, booze is well hidden.

Big thanks to dcschiller for opening this, and waiting to open it when I was around, thanks Dave! It pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweetness, fresh oak and then a modest level of apple and peach esteriness in the background. The taste has pleasing balance where a firm degree of cherry and cherry skin tartness tries to dominate the flavor but some malty like sweetness and sweet dark fruity esters lead into some smooth modest bourbon notes into the finish. Solid!

Shared by Dcschiller- thanks! Nose of sweet fruit, honey, slight sour. Nice flavors of wood, vanilla, some sweet malts, giving way to pit fruits, slight bitterness & finishing w/ tart cherries. Overall, a great balance of sweet/ sour. Fun beer!

Had this one @ Dak’s. Thanks for all the good beers! I really enjoyed this one, but it doesn’t make me think of a Barley Wine. The nose was fresh cut wood, with cherries in the background. Sweet and sour is my first impression, has a wine like character with cherriesand honey. A good mix of flavors. Alcohol is well hidden. Very tasty with well defined flavors.

22 ounce bottle opened at Matt’s tasting, poured an amber color, almost looked exactly like the regular version. Aromas of toffee, caramel, light vanilla, honey and huge amounts of cherries. Flavors followw the aromas, the cherry flavor did not overpower the other flavors, light bourbon aftertaste.

Reddish amber pour with a small off-white head. Sweet and tart aroma with cherry and oak. The flavor seems a bit infected, slightly tart with malty sweetness, wheat, honey, and cherry. Fairly syrupy and full-bodied. Not really a fan for the style. Not that impressive.
