COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The character pictured on the front of this label is Jonathan Holmberg. Jonathan has been a bartender at what now is Jackie O’s for the past 15 years. In 2004 he helped me get my foot in the door and has been a dear friend ever since. Jonathan is a true eccentric and this beer is nothing short of that. Our robust porter was placed into Cabernet barrels eight months ago. Wild yeast and Lactobacillus were added to the barrels to give the beer a tart edge and some very rustic and fruity qualities. Sixty pounds of tart cherries were added to each barrel to take this beer in a unique direction. Notes of cherries, oak, chocolate, wine, and leather all find a special spot in this brew. Cab Cherry Man is a beer that can stand up to the antiquing, joking, halloween-loving, and sweet personality that is Jonathan’s. Cheers, buddy! -Brad Clark, brewer

Chitown RB gathering Jan 2010: bottle #69 shared by Kan, thanks

Deep brownish hue with reddish highlights with minimal head or lace. The aroma has a big sour fruit (red grapes and cherries) and oak vapour along with some walnut and chocolate, continuous lactic acid. The taste has a sour fruity overtone with some sweet malt background. Wine barrel tannic finish. The mouth feel is soft and refreshing. This will be nice with some more age methinks

Enjoyed at the Flossmoor Station RB tasting, 1/16/2010: This poured a dark brown body with a dinkus light tan head. It had a fuzzy cherry nose with some dark caramel sweetness and a splash of milk chocolate. The flavor funks up a bit, the cherries get stronger (This should be a fruit beer.), the chocolate recedes, and a bit of oak is added. Quite nice.

Bottle thanks to pantanap at Chicago RB tasting. Pour is deep , dark brown with small off-white head. This beer has a notable wine character with hints of cherry and caramel malt. Also a faint funkiness and a lightly metallic note in the finish. Solid stuff

22 oz bottle from pantanap. Thanks, Kan! Pours a dark brown, very dark, a small bubbly offhwhite head that clings to the corners. Aromas are sour cherries, sweet maraschino is smaller, a touch of sweet caramel malts, a touch of red wine tannin and vanilla. Initial is different, dark chocolate cherries, decent with red wine tannins provide mild bitterness, oak and faint vanilla. Some decent dark complexity. This is heavy cherry, some light dark chocolate, oak is plentiful with good red wine tannin. Very very good.

Bottle with a big thanks to pantanap for sharing this at the chicagoland ratebeer gathering. Pours a somewhat murky brown with a small beige head. Notes of sour cherries, chocolate, red wine, wood. Very much reminded me of consecration, but this was slighly less acidic and not quite as clean. A nice beer though which I’m quite happy to have tried.

Courtesy of markwise, poured a reddish brown with a thin tan head. Nose is roasted malt with chocolate and molasses, slightly vinous with notes of cherry and oak. Body is on the thin side with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is also vinous and slightly tart with some roasted malt, cherry, and oak. Alcohol is well hidden but still warming. Finishes slightly tart.

22oz bottle (69 of 156)... Pours a dark caramel brown with a very thin quickly dissipating head... Aroma of cocoa/chocolate with cherry notes thrown into the measure. Lightly tart.... Muddled and earthy sour cherry flavors. Very light carbonation with a somewhat medium body. Not bad but somewhat non-refined. Having said that I would have it again.
