COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The character pictured on the front of this label is Jonathan Holmberg. Jonathan has been a bartender at what now is Jackie Oís for the past 15 years. In 2004 he helped me get my foot in the door and has been a dear friend ever since. Jonathan is a true eccentric and this beer is nothing short of that. Our robust porter was placed into Cabernet barrels eight months ago. Wild yeast and Lactobacillus were added to the barrels to give the beer a tart edge and some very rustic and fruity qualities. Sixty pounds of tart cherries were added to each barrel to take this beer in a unique direction. Notes of cherries, oak, chocolate, wine, and leather all find a special spot in this brew. Cab Cherry Man is a beer that can stand up to the antiquing, joking, halloween-loving, and sweet personality that is Jonathanís. Cheers, buddy! -Brad Clark, brewer

Note: Cab Cherry Man may be labeled as Cherry Man on the draft menu, but all recent batches have been barrel aged and ratings belong here.

Bottle. Pours reddish black with small head. Aroma and flavor very Flemish In nature. Smells like chocolate covered dark cherry funk with light herbal qualities. Flavor of sour cherries, cabarnet, vinegar, must, and light chocolate. Flavor is very similar to a Flemish or lambic as well. Quite interesting

Bomber shared by ClarkVV. Batch A3 bottle 404 dated 8/15. Thanks Clark! Poured about an ounce in about 2oz of Caravaggio and that tasted pretty damn good. Letís see what itís like on its own. Pours dark amber with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate, cherry lifesaver. Flavor is chocolate, tart cherry. Tastes better in the Caravaggio.

Poured into a tulip. 2011 vintage, bottle #104 of 384. 3.5 A: Dark brown, almost black color. Two fingers of light brown head that fizzes away a bit faster than Iíd like and doesnít do much in terms of lacing. 4.0 S: The cherry isnít as intense as I remember at the release. I guess that happens with time, but I didnít think it would happen so soon. That isnít to say there isnít any cherry and what is there works well with the cabernet barrel to off a delightful vinous character. Overall, this is quite fruity from the actual fruit, the barrel, and the lactic tanginess. Iím picking up berries and in particular raspberries. Good balance between sweet and tart. Lightly funky and moderately tart/sour. Vanilla, oak, toasted malts, a touch of chocolate and maybe a hint of tannic astringency. Finally, this is teeming with that JOís house character. 4.0 T: Oak and vanilla are among the strongest flavors this time. Cherry again is a little lighter than I would prefer, though still tasty. The cabernet barrel again works wonderful in the taste as well. Vinous grape, cherry, and raspberry form a triumvirate of fruitiness. This wild ale is surprisingly tame on the acid front. Acetic acid is nowhere to be found, while lactic acid comes off as more fruity than anything. Again, a light funk. The porter comes through more in the taste. Toastiness with a considerable chocolate component. 4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Incredibly smooth. A light creaminess, but I would prefer some more. 4.5 D: Another solid offering. I considered giving 4.5ís to some other scores, so I figured this is a good place to split the difference. Very flavorful and easy to drink. Some day Iíll post my on-tap review from the release. Interesting beer but it suffers from a thin feel. The beer has a good aroma - cherries, wine, chocolate, roast. Feel was oddly watery and it really washed out the flavor. I donít quite know what Iím reacting, but recently, Iíve had a few barrel-aged beers that seem to have really thinned out in the barrel.
