3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample. Poured a dark brown color with a large frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body. Solid sweet toasted flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Can @ home, courtesy of DrSilverworm. Thanks! Pours a brown appearance with a creamy, brown head. Roasty, nutty, caramel malty, light pancake, slight biscuity, a touch fruity aroma. Somewhat herbal, a bit woody, grassy, tangy honey, nutty, a bit roasty, burnt, somewhat spicy flavor. Not my favorite.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a very dark brown color with a medium thin tan head that recedes steadily. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Aroma of coffee and honey. Medium body with flavors of coffee, hops and sweet honey nuts. The finish is moderately bitter coffee with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Not fully organic according to the brewmaster but a solid beer regardless.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. can from a six-pack from Dutch’s. Gifted to my wife; I took some of her pour. Pours a dark, earthy brown, more orange in the narrower part of the glass, with an inch of frothy beige head that settles inconsistently. Aroma of toasted malts, mixed nuts, dry leaves, minor honey sweetness, and a bit of cocoa. Flavor of chocolate and toasted malts, earth, nuts, light honey, and dark fruits. Light-medium bodied, with fairly low carbonation and an earthy mouthfeel that finishes dry and toasty. Solid brown ale. Nice to see this locally in cans.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to errl for sharing this can. Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is very nice with some toffee and caramel notes as well as some nuttiness and chocolate. The flavor is similar with some ashy chocolate coming through up front and some nuts and toffee also present. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampler flight on tap at the brewpub (Athens, OH). Pours a richly hazed brownish hue, darker in the body with some glowing mahogany edges. Darker with a firmly sized frothy tannish head that laces ok overall. Aromas are touches of honey oat, wheat bread, and some carmelization. Distinct nutty aroma, touches of cocoa, some caramel and biscuits. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch lighter giving toffee and biscuits, touches of honey, some nutty malty elements mix with gentle cocoa, some crisp carmelization. Touches of mellow sweetness, dark carmelized sugars, nut and honey elements and cocoa. Backend and finish offers some darker malts, brown sugar, and cocoa. Pretty solid, good flavors.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample during Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. Reddish brown pour with a medium tan head. Roasty coffee nose with nuts and a bit of fruit. Roasty coffee flavor with some chocolate to go along with the nutty character. Also has a nice bitter finish, whether due to hops or the roast.
