3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at the RBSG Summer Grand Tasting (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a decent murky brown, small offwhitish head sits atop and laces ok. Aromas are sour cherries in bunches, a touch of sweetness derived from dark fruits, light roasty malts mix with a touch of brown malts, lactic acid, decent doses of barnyard and dusty bread. Interesting seeing the brett actually peek through. Woody oak, a touch of vanilla, decent acidity on the nose. Initial is pretty nice overall: sour cherries pair with a decent to moderate sourness, decent acidity mixes with dry dusty brett, dark fruit and brown malt sweetness, earthy tobacco and a touch of roast still shine through. Vanilla tannins, sweeter fruits. A touch of cocoa, a bit thinned but still at or around medium bodied. Interesting beer, more sour than anticipated but not necessarily as sour as I’d like. Always welcome some Jackie O’s from the CBus crew. A decent Oud Bruin, decent sour acidity but a little sloppy around the edges, a touch medicinal and a bit sweet.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is a dark mahogany color with a finger or two worth of off-white head.
S: The nose is quite fruity, with lots of sour cherries and a hint of under-ripe plums. The acetic nature of the beer is there, but not overly powerful.
T: A good sour cherry flavor along with a bit of oak and (strangely) some chocolate notes (oxidation?). Fairly earthy and somewhat dry, but a decent amount of sweetness seems to have been retained.
M: The body is medium with a strong carbonation and a slight dry quality on the finish.
D: I quite liked this beer, especially after having a couple of terrible Oud Bruins lately.

(22oz bottle #56/72 bottled 12/23/09 thanks to bu11zeye) clear deep brown with no head and a slight ring of bubbles. Nose of sour cherry, cedar,, vinous, honey wheat bread and pipe tobacco. Taste of tangerine, bitter wood, chocolate, esters, alcohol, cedar, and smoke. Really odd beer, I’d recommend drinking this at or near room temperature. Semi tart finish.
