Growler, courtesy darkguardian. Pours a mostly clear reddish brown color topped by a small, tan head of bubbles. The aroma shows a dark chocolate malt base with some roasty elements to go with some soured dark cherries and earthy oak. The flavor follows with more chocolate and roasted malts with hints of the tart cherries and some lactic yeast. The oak flavors are there a little as well, but not much bourbon. It is pretty roasty overall to go with the light tartness from the cherries. Medium bodied and pretty smooth overall with subtle carbonation that finishes tart and dry. This one seems like it is all over the place. Not bad though.

Growler, courtesy darkguardian. Pours a reddish clear brown with a thin tan head. Nose is roasty, some chocolate, a little tart cherry with a touch of acedic. More roast, a little acidity balance with some malt, fruity, hints of cherry. Rather thin, mildly dry roasty sour.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - NOV 11, 2009
Growler, courtesy darkguardian. Pours a clear, dark, cherrywood brown color with a small, bubbly head of tan foam. Minimal, spotty lacing marks the glass. The aroma sports a cocoa malt base, slightly creamy and lactic, with notes of black cherry and indiscernible dark fruit. A trace of coffee lends a subtle roastiness, while the fruits show as very lightly tart. Though the wood isn’t prominent, there’s an earthiness and a warming alcohol note that are present in the nose. Flavors seem more like an old world porter, very reminiscent of New Glarus’ recent Unplugged Olde English Porter. Dry cocoa abounds, it tastes dry and chocolaty more than fruity, with the tartness coming from lactic yeast. Still, some cherry and fig can be picked up. The level of roast is surprising for a sour ale. Medium bodied and initially smooth, the finish comes through a little ashy and dry. This is a weird one. Seems like it doesn’t really know what it wants to be.

JW77 rock on my friend! Brown pour. Aroma is nice...cherries, vinegar, wet wood and some caramel. Flavor carries the light vinegar and lots of cherries, but it was too watery for me.

7/13/2009: Jackie-O’s Chunga’s Old Bruin (Barrel aged sour brown ale with cherries) has a slightly sour cherry nose to it, but wow, the flavor it loaded up with wonderful tart cherries, some pleasing sourness, and a touch of caramelized malt coming through from underneath. This dark brown beer is smooth, warming, and has a good amount of pucker. I personally think that the amount of cherries in this beer is just right. It isn’t New Glarus Belgian Red, but it is still damn tasty!
Snifter (draught) at Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2009. Rating #2 for this beer.

On tap a brew week in Athens. Claims to have 20# of sour cherries in the mash. Tastes like half of them were in the sample I had. Dark and surprisingly clear. The cherries are evident in the aroma and almost overpowering in the flavor. The finish is so sour, it reminds me of vinegar. For a 4 oz sample, it was bearable. A pint may have killed me.
