4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 corby112 (2214) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 29, 2011
705ml shared at the 2011 Hunahpu’s release but I don’t remember who opened it. Whoever you are, thanks a ton!
Pours a deep dark chocolate brown color with faint hints of mahogany edges when held to a light and a one finger dark mocha head. Good retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring that leaves sporadic spots of lace behind.
Amazing silky chocolate aroma with a deep roasted mocha coffee/espresso bean presence. that isn’t burnt or acrid at all. Hints of chocolate tootsie roll(but somehow not artificial), caramel, toffee and hazelnut as well as a faint bourbon barrel presence. Subtle booze with hints of vanilla and oak but this beer mostly smells like the best coffee ever brewed. Amazing nose!
Chewy full body with an excellent balance of roasted espresso, silky milk and bittersweet dark chocolate. Hints of hazelnut, toffee, oatmeal and luscious chocolate malts. incredibly smooth, well balanced with a well masked ABV. No alcohol heat whatsoever making this beer dangerously quaffable. Slightly smokey, dry and roasted but still sweet with a very faint bourbon barrel presence. Again, there is slight boozy bourbon sweetness with sweet vanilla and marshmallow notes. The bourbon is there but the coffee flavor is so ridiculously smooth and prominent that it takes a back seat.
Overall, this beer far exceeded my expectations. I find most of the Jackie O’s beers that I’ve tried so far to be overrated but this beer is excellent and totally legit. Please trade me more.

65cl, Vintage 2012, Bottle 238/300, no mention of ABV, as Bourbon Barrel Kopi Luwak Dark Apparition, new exclusive American brew, with coffee, thx to Secret Santa!, complex Stout, roasted/woody and slightly alcoholic/vinous, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

Fantastic beer!! Josh C! Thanks for the bottle!!
Pours dark black with a think dark head that fades rather quickly. The nose on this one if fantastic! Tons of bourbon, vanilla and some coffee. The taste follows that nose perfectly! Great bourbon, chocolate and coffee that mixes wonderfully.
Great mouthfeel, very thick and satisfying.
Overall, I will try to get this bottle again at every opportunity! Don’t miss out if you can get it.

Bottle shared by MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Pours cola-colored with a thin tan head. Nose is dark roast coffee, but not pungent at all. Sugary, with a graham cracker, vanilla, and milky cream base. Taste is dark roast coffee with lots of milky sweetness, vanilla, butterscotch, oak, and dark roast on the finish. A little booze with warming heat on the finish. Pretty big body. The barrel aging seems to have amped up the sweetness and muted the coffee.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 stumpyiliz (174) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Notes of espresso, dark chocolate and bourbon on the nose. Pour is thick with a dark tan/red head that lingers around for the entire pour. Taste is predominantly coffee into bitter chocolate with bourbon finishing off the palate with the smoked malts of the stout coming through at the very end. A nice brew but the coffee takes over all of the predominant flavor and really doesn’t allow the beer to really shine.

Bottle, from MikeTD, Wow, this was awesome. the coffee just adds such a great flavor, the taste from this is hauntingly awesome. barrel treatment takes a nice back seat and adds complementary flavors as opposed to dominate like a Bourbon County Stout So so good.

Tap sample. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and bourbon alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet dark coffee, chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark bittersweet and small bourbon alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is an standout beer.
