This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition cause this ghost is a creeper.

Bottle, opaque, oily black beer, bubbly almond colored head dissapeared immediately. Aroma is molasses, bourbon, hugely vanilla, rootbeer, broiled dark fruit, sweet chocolate. Taste is vanilla, molasses, coffee, oak, figs, pecans, bourbon, toasted barley. This is so much better than I thought it would be. Not nearly as sweet, fairly roasty, and big flavors! Palate is rich and thick, carbonation subdued. Its a little hot. Another year or two might really make this shine!

Aroma of cola, wood, bourbon, tosca, burned caramel, light brown sugar. Lots of flavors, and very different from other bourbon barrel aged stouts. Solid vanilla taste with a licorice backbone, a bit nutty with spicy bourbon carrying it through. A bit thin.

Weak and unsustainable foam on this stout, but since the alcohol exceeds 11% it can not be surprised. The aroma is dominated by peat smoke and oak. Taste wise it is full of dark chocolate, coffee and a little hazelnut. Palate is very complex and this stouts subtext is also inviting fruity flavor of plums, fresh grapes and then again a delicate flavor of chocolate cake (Brownie). It tastes not only of the good taste of dark chocolate, but rather a mixture of chocolate and bread, which my best flavor image must be Brownie. It is brewed with five varieties of malts and the barley malt must definitely be the malt type contributing to redolent of chocolate cake because it also has a lot of rye bread character. The finish offers delicate vanilla and sweet Bourbon Whiskey. It is a stout which absolutely should be enjoyed at room temperature, everything else would be a shame. It is a thick, oily and very delicious stout which should be enjoyed over a long time.

12oz bottle pours a thick black color without any head. Harsh bourbon at first, but quickly smooths out with some time to breath. Nice molasses and hop balance.
