This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Jet black in color with a milk chocolate head. Huge boozy aroma of bourbon. Paired nicely with dark roasted malt. Tons of bourbon and chocolate flavor. Very nicely balanced with a great aftertaste.

Pours an opaque dark brown color almost black, very viscous like oil, with khaki colored head. Bourbon, lots of boozy bourbon on the nose, some chocolate, sugar sweetness, and coffee on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes very boozy. Lots of bourbon on this, almost overwhelms the beer.

A 375ml bottle of 2015 vintage and poured into a snifter glass. It poured a deep dark black colour with a thin khaki head that dissipated almost just as quickly but leaves some nice spotty lacing. Aromas are strong bourbon, sweet brown sugar, chocolate fudge brownie, molasses and vanilla. Taste starts with sweet molasses followed by bourbon and dark chocolate with some light toffee, caramel and coffee. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation and a warming alcohol feel. Overall a very good Russian Imperial Stout with a nice hit of bourbon that is strong but not harsh and nicely complemented with chocolate, caramel and coffee flavours. I would definitely buy this again.

CBC 2016, Blue session, thanks to Nische for sharing. Deep dark brown body Spotty lacing. Bubbly ring to the surface. Oak-like nose with dark fruits. Dark malty flavours, including liquorice and chocolate, dark fruits and vanilla oak. Backbone of bourbon. Lingering mid-sweet malt-fruity finish. Just a lovely sipper (Copenhagen 13.05.2016).

Sample at CBC 2016, Blue Session. To be honest this is very similar to the coffee vanilla version. Light roast, chocolate, molasses, vanilla and coffee with balanced bourbon aged notes. A bit lighter vanilla/chocolate but still holds up very well.

Bottle at Mikkeller & Friends, july 26th 2015. Black body, medium tanned head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, bourbon. Taste is sweet, massive, medium bitter, vanilla, wood. Extreme complexity from the barelling and malt combo here. This one proves that barrelling can still be a great thing.

Fat på CBC-16. 11,5%abv. En kraftig relativt söt och med tydlig doft- och smakkaraktär från Bourbonfaten. Riktigt maffigt. STor kropp, massor av molass, vanilj, bourbon, mörk lätt bränd fudge, söt mörk choklad. Mer åt godishållet. Riktigt gott.
