Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours nearly black dark brown with no head but a few brown bubbles. The nose is milk chocolate and rum-raisin cake with some dusty dark chocolate. The flavor is lightly tart with plenty of chocolate syrup and that same rum-raisin cake. The body is full with average carbonation and a long rum and raisin cake finish, with just a touch of tartness.

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates completely. Aroma has heavy raisin with and dark grains with a bit of dark chocolate. Flavor has lots of raisin with a bit of grape that gives a port note with a bit of underlying dark chocolate.

12oz bottle from Jackie O’s. Pours a dark stout brown color with a tan head. Nose is chocolate, rum, wood, raisins, dark fruit, and some tartness. Flavor is a brilliant blend of flavors- chocolate, tartness, dark fruit, raisins, and slight spirits. Medium in body and interesting overall- a great blend of these flavors.

12 oz. hand-labeled bottle from alexsdad06- thanks again, Brad! Pours a deep, dark cocoa brown with no head. The nose really pops in this one, with notes of berries and raisins, anise, vanilla, chocolate, plums, and molasses. The flavor has just as much anise, with vanilla, chocolate, plums and berries, and a bit of tartness throughout. There is definitely booze present in the nose and flavor. Medium-full bodied, with low carbonation and a boozy, smooth, mildly tart mouthfeel. Definite black licorice character here. My favorite of the Dark Apparition lineup so far.

Bottle at the last release. Pours dark brown/black with no head at all. The nose has dark roasted malts and dark chocolate like the other versions, but those are dominated by the big raisin component in this beer. Additional mild bourbon notes come through. Flavor is also heavy with raisins that hide many of the qualities of the base beer. Still dark chocolate and roast, bourbon and wood. I appreciate all of the different treatments and look forward to trying many more.

Strong aroma of rum raisin ice cream, Christmas fruit cake, dark fruit. Flavor is sour sweet fruity, not too dark. Mouthfeel is great and sharp sour.

hopscotch (9161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 17, 2012
Bottle… Pours as black and thick as SAE 30 motor oil with 60,000 miles on it. No head. The bouquet is a complex blend of maple syrup, dried plum, dark raisins, fudge and a trace of blackstrap molasses. Medium to full-bodied and lightly creamy with buzzing carbonation. The flavor is tart and offers both dark raisins and spicy-warmth, especially in the back of my throat. It’s as if there were chili peppers involved with this treatment. Finishes tart and tangy with ethanol and chili pepper-like warmth. Odd, but undeniably interesting. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

Tmoney99 (10660) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 7, 2012
Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a minimal frothy brown head that lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, raison and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy sweet dark chocolate malt and dark fruit flavor with a medium to heavy sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid fruit beer.

THE NAME OF THIS LISTING IS WRONG. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE "NANO RAISIN." Dark App put into a 7 gallon bourbon barrel with raisins added. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tasting glass. 3.5 A: Black color. No head could be formed. 4.0 S: Chocolate, raisin, light leathery bourbon, woody. 2.5 T: Too much tanginess from the bourbon. Raisiny with a bit less chocolate. Supple roastiness. Strangely boozy. 2.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. No creaminess at all. 2.5 D: This should have been good. I’d venture a guess that the barrel aging wasn’t done too well this time. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-25-2012 18:46:14

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Appearance is black with just a wisp of tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, raisins (of course), figs, coffee, some barrel notes that are nicely subdued. Taste is just what I was looking for. This beer blew my mind how delicious it was. Slightly boozy raisins and figs with just a hint of sourness in the finish. Holy shit this was a good beer. I wish they would have sold me this one to go. I’d love to have a constant stock of this. So damn good.
