3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2011 vintage, bottle 211 of 216. Very dark brown, red color. Nice thin lighter brown bubbly head. Good color.Dots of lace. Lightly tart, vinous smells in the nose. Light tart, lightly spicy in the flavor. Moderate bitter. Light alcohol warmth. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Sort of a chewier texture. More dry finish. Dark fruit, light spice, some dark chocolate, moderate to bigger roast, some tannic character to the aroma. Very complex, tasty aroma to this, but itís lightly over-tannic, hint of tartness to it. Overall, very interesting, enjoyable, tasty variant of Dark App. Excited to try a fresh vintage at the upcoming 8th Anniversary party.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber to taster (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a dark and fairly opaque cola with tan lacing. Smells sweet with notes of rum and dark malt. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Good, not great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with the group (2012, notes). Pours dark brown/black in color with a thin beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, light rum notes, butterscotch and dark fruit. The flavor is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, light coffee, rum with dark fruits. The finish is dry with some black coffee bitterness and a slight earthy character. Iíve heard this has issues recently, but fresh this was good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amazingly black used motor oil pour with a fast disippating red cedar wood head. The initial smell is full of cherries and plums. The rum comes through at the end of the breath. Initial taste is tart with dancing favors of rum smoked malts and cranberry into raspberry. The finish is very tannic on the sides of the tongue. Rum comes through after the tannins die down and the final finish on the palate is dry rum wood. I am afraid that the tartness is a thing that will be prevelant and take over the palate if you age this beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22 oz. bottle, pours pitch black with a medium light brown head. Nose is full of rum and raisins, without any booziness, and probably subverting the original characteristics of the beer. Flavour brings out the rum barrels upfront, along with raisins and loads of booze. There is a bit of tartness in there, due to the rum barrels, without being overbearing. Fairly viscous and sticky. Solid stuff, but nothing very interesting.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, caramel and rum alcohol aroma. Heavy sweet dark chocolate malt, rum, wood flavor with a heavy sweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a another standout beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011 bottle from Santa. 31/216. Huge thanks! Black pour with a small brown head. Aroma was very sweet, tons of rum, wood, caramel, chocolate and a light hint of booze. Flavors were also rum dominated although not as sweet, the caramel and chocolate are still present, very light roast. The sweet rum and wood dominate, good bit of fruit. Mouthfeel was rather light for the ABV making it more drinkable than it should be. Carbonation was fitting, light. Long finish full of rum with just a touch of bitterness and booze. I liked this very much. Why the low ratings?

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle via trade. 2011 release, bottle 191/216. Pours a deep cocoa brown with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma was sweet, with butterscotch, vanilla, dried dark fruit, oak, and rum throughout. Flavor of vanilla, butterscotch, cream, rum, oak, dark fruits, and boozy bread. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a mouthfeel that starts sweet and roasty and finishes more fruity. Not bad but doesnít hold up to the other barrel treatments.
