3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: Vanilla and more vanilla, nothing more, nothing less. Fun beer
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh less than two months after the beer first release. Post-EBF hotel tasting
The look: Black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is dominated by vanilla and sweet dessert note. Taste is just as simple. Low roasted level, slimy body, low carbonation. The beer tastes like an oily black cake tipple-dipped into vanilla extract and with distant notes of chocolate. Thatís it. I didnít even picked up the rum barrels. Iím sure the beer is uber-sweet but the vanilla is so overwhelming that it doesnít seem cloying. Yes the beer was good, but unless you screw something up any vanilla beer, coffee beer or chocolate beer is good. I must admit I donít ďgetĒ the craze for Jackie-O so far. A lot of people were enthusiastic about the new bottle releases. But thereís a fine line between enthusiasm and hype, and also between Jackie and O.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2012 batch #103/240 picked up from the brewery. Pours like a typical stout with a smaller brown head that dissipates quickly. Nice aroma of chocolate, vanilla and booze (although I couldnít swear it was rum). The flavor is dominated at first by a relatively sharp, tart fruit flavor but it finishes with some roasted malt and coffee bitterness. Good but Iím not sure if that touch of sourness was intended.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour out of 22 oz bottle, huge tan head, dark black pour. Uh oh. Aroma brought sour cherry, vinegar, some trash, vanilla, hints of booze, slight cardboard notes as well. Taste is infected, sour cherry, dark berry, hints of vinegar and garbage-y notes, touch of earth, chocolate and some slight roast, hints of booze, and vanilla. Too bad.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at Arminís with friends, courtesy of Armin. Thanks, I think. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small tan head. Roasty, dark fruity, sour, malty, tangy, tingy, and floral aroma. Taste is caramel, brown sugar, so tart and infected cherries and raspberries. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Really bad infection.

Bottle shared by noodleuser. Thanks man!
The beer is dark brown with maroon highlights and a small beige head. The aroma offers booze, oak, vanilla, chocolate. Raisin and fig in the flavor with notes of sweet vanilla. Booze and chocolate as well. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Pretty tasty.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared by Noodleuser. Poured a dark black color with a touch of tan on the edges. Artificial (or perhaps too-real) vanilla notes to it. Okay, but not what I had hoped. Rum brings out a slightly sour note to it that wasnít as pleasant as I had hoped.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by Noodleuser: pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet vanilla and rum raisin nose with a touch of dark chocolate. Starts with average fullness and light sweetness with good chocolate and dark fruity notes along with a touch of light tartness before a drier, semi-tart finish.

651mL thanks to noodleuser. Deep ruby pour looking black. Low carbonation, beige foam. Nose is black olive, strawberry, salt, tar. Taste is thin up front, some intense vanilla extract. Light acidity. Very watery for style. Disappointing.
