3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark with a good khaki color foam head. The aroma has hints of coffee, chocolate, molasses, some caramel, and roasted dark malts. Tasting I noticed mild bitterness, nice roasted flavors, some sugary caramel, very rich in malts, and a yeast booze blended taste. The finish was enjoyable and the beverage was full in body. Overall this was a good brew but being a stout fan it missed the mark with me.

2.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black with small tan head. Smells like malted milk balls. I hate malted milk balls. Chocolate flavor, thick, fairly smooth. Ok flavor but the aroma is awful.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
poured from 12.7 fl oz bottle. no bottled-on date, but had been in the cooler of my workplace for a good while. poured at room temp
into snifter, jet black with quickly-dissolving head. no retention whatsoever.
aroma of raisin, alcohol, smokiness, chocolate, sweetness.
chocolate-y vanilla, raisin upfront, a little less alcohol in taste, heavy and sticky lingering of molasses.
although knowing many people with close connections to this brewery, I’ve never had many extraordinary experiences with their brews. the flavor is very nice but the linger a little heavy for my taste. aroma a bit boozy. I had a weyerbacher heresy beforehand, possibly skewed my palate.
all in all, great flavor, worth the try, but didn’t quite live up to the hype it had been built up to by my friends.

Bottle: Black, inky body with a small tan collar outlining the top. Aroma of heavy roast, cocoa nibs, dark malt, & some faint char. Almost like campfire wood, but not as smoky. Flavor is also very charred, roasted, & a touch ashy, but lands just shy of a full fledge scorching. Light undertones of cocoa & burnt caramel sweeten things up a touch. Some toasted nuts in the finish, a hint of black licorice & molasses, too. Pretty nice stuff.
