COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Thanks Helmut! Sampled from a growler this beer poured an oily black color with a medium sized foamy brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet toasty malts, cocoa, vanilla and anise. The flavor was sharp and bitter fruity hops, anise, toasty malts, port wine, cherry, vanilla and a hint of mint. Incredibly long hoppy and toasty finish with anise and cherry notes. Thick and creamy - the beer really coats the tongue and refuses to leave. Marvelous!

Very dark brown beer, small chocolate coloured head. Rich dark malt nose with a promise of dark fruits and warming spirit. Smooth softish palate, semi dry. Rich dark malt and cream, A little dark chocolate and a touch of coffee. Whisper of red berry fruits underneath. Finishes semi dry with a tiny drop of honey. Light on it’s feet, delicious and drinkable.

22 oz bottle served in a Deschutes tulip. Shared this in line at DLD. Big thanks to MarkIntihar for the bottle!! Batch from 2011, bottle # 4/228. A: Pours a pitch black body with a dark khaki head forming on the pour. It recedes to nothing but leaves a sticky body trail around the glass. S: Sweet creamy malts, oaty flavors and some chocolate with a little bit of roast. T: Bitter bakers chocolate, toasted oat malts, some pale malts in the finish and a light coffee flavor. M: Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation and roasty malt finish. O: This was sadly a little ho-hum for me. It was good, but I expected some bolder flavors for an RIS, particular the dark fruit flavors or more coffee that I find so often. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-02-2012

Bottle shared at Woodshop 7. Black with a brown head. Some weird stuff going on here that is unexplained by the list of ingredients. I’m getting lots of berries, especially strawberry ice cream, with a substantial tartness. Aside from that there’s lots of espresso and bread and chocolate. Kinda boozy too.

Jet black colour, red hue, small tan head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, earth and overripe fruit. Rather sweet flavour, light sour note, red fruit, slightly tart, chocolate, somewhat saline, soy sauce and red wine. Finish saline, soy sauce and red fruits.

Countbeer (4372) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUL 1, 2012
Bottle @ZZT IV: Small and quick disappearing brown head on top of a black colored beer. Smellis a strange mix of iron, vinous notes and some light cherry notes. Taste is more subtle and fuller either: lots of red fruit, light vinous, some roasted barleys, light bitter, spices, light sour (red fruity sour). Different approach of and Imperial Stout, but pretty nice. Aftertaste is a mix of spices, with vinous notes and some creamy barley malts. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture.

On tap at the brewhouse. Big beer with jet black color and a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted barley, grain and doughy bread. Taste is heavy on the sweet side with chocolate being the overwhelming flavor along with coffee and earth notes. The finish is smooth with hint of bitterness. Creamy mouthful with a heavy body. Overall a good beer, but was expecting better.
