COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ícause this ghost is a creeper.

(sampled at Dakís Final Four Tasting!). Bottled 11.18.09. Pours dark brown with thin khaki head. Aroma has loads of chocolate, coffee and some dark fruits. Taste is sweet with some roasty bitterness and well balanced. Medium bodied with a slick texture. This is a really nice beer!

Nice rich black pour, brown head. Tons of cocoa, roasted malt, light ash, ashpalt, coffee. Flavor is smooth and creamy with just the right touch of hops, great dark chocolate and molasses, prunes.

On tap at Jackie-Oís, Athens OH on 11 March 2010. Iím pretty sure it was the "basic" version I had - didnít realize there were so many variants at the time. Pitch black. Good oily rich dark stuff. Lots of chocolate in the aroma. More of a mix of chocolate and coffee in the flavour. A very good imperial stout but not quite as individual and distinctive of some of the other Jackie-Oís beers I tried at this sitting.

This beer is straight up dark chocolate. Dark chocolate from hell to breakfast, with just a tiny hint of licorice. Superb and delicious.

Growler courtesy of Josh - thank you! Silky black beer with an expresso tan head. Aroma is huge bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and light hops with a dry finish. Taste is bitter hops up front transitioning into chocolate, coffee bitterness, and dark, roasted malt. Some raisin/plum notes on the back 3rd of the taste and a clean, dry finish. Very solid and enjoyable IRS.

Pours (from draft) very dark brown to black and has a medium brown head. Heavy roast aroma with some chocolate hints. Extremely balanced taste. Very crisp clean body with a little touch of cream.

"Late í10" DA. Notes from 4-5 oz sample. A-Body is a very dark brown, nearly black hue. Served with a one finger or so tan head that fades to aq thin collar that remains thin but lingers on for awhile. Hints of vibrant red can be seen when this brew is held up to the light. S- Nose is classic RIS- but quite fruity with plum and raisin notes taking the forefront- chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, oatmeal, and anise are in the bakcground. T- Initial flavor is quite smnooth and balanced with an equal balance of roasted malt, vanilla, anise, licorice. The flavors intensify for the finish with roasted malt coming through the most. A mild to moderate roasted malt bitterness lingers for quite awhile. M- Low to medium carbonation and a smooth, thick, viscous body. Very well done. D- This is a great stout-one that would definately have again. Pretty much of a classic, well done IRS. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 12-05-2010 22:42:41

On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown/black pour with a thin beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, espresso and dark fruit. The flavor is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee with dark fruits. The finish is dry with some black coffee bitterness and a slight earthy character. This is best enjoyed at the brewpub in Athens.

Bomber #61/72, bottled 11/18/2009. Poured inky, deep brown with a short cap of rich tan head that just didnít stick around long enough (the color was great). The aroma picked up burnt darker chocolate and cocoa, black patent, and molasses.. brighter overtones of dark fruit-laden alcohol and a pinch of cocoa and vanilla sweetness.. upon closer inspection, the nose hairs were singed a little bit. The flavor opened with a syrupy foray of muddled dark malts, with a vein of metallic fruit skin sourness, peppery alcohol, and oxidation starting there.. darker chocolates and black patent malts at the core.. just a little espresso bitterness on the edges.. sourness rode out the finish and just didnít work (maybe an infection going on), but at least it masked most of the alcohol. Heavier-bodied, yet oily at times on the palate.. sourness was unfortunately the most memorable characteristic.. Iíd like to try this fresh on tap sometime, as there was good stuff deep down.
