COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Lubiere (9998) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 13, 2011
A deep dark stout with a very thin brown head, viscous and thick. In aroma, an interesting and complex herbaceous chocolate, briny qualities, coffee grinds, almost meaty. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with light acidic cherry blossoms, coffee grinds, viscous bodied, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle from Boutip, shared with GRM, Probstk and Ian, Dec. 2 2011.

Bomber shared by Boutip (merci!), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Part of a vertical. 02DE11.

App.: Deep brown-black, slight tan rim. Aroma: Extremely dark, rich, heavy, dark chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, somewhat fruity, a lightly tangy note, a touch metallic, slightly mashy. Palate: Medium+ body, limited effervescence. Flav.: Dark chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, molasses, a little green leafy note, tangy, a bit fruity; dry with decent bitterness, tangy with a long, slightly metallic, soy sauce, molasses finish.

Interesting, a bit different.

Boutip (4726) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 8, 2011
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate and light molasses is interesting. Taste is dominated by dry black chocolate notes with some light molasses and some very subtle tart notes. Body is above average with limited carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nicely brewed with limited complexity – fuller body a bit more carbonation would have been better.

Bottle thanks to markwise. This one wasn’t as awesome as the Vanilla Bean treatment but it was really good. Reminds me tons of Avery’s The Czar. Pretty heavy carb. Great stuff, get sum.

22oz bottle .. . Pours a deep brown black .. . light foam, light sticky lacing .. . now all we have to do is catch a sword! .. . light roast, tar and oil .. . pretty good and nicely balanced .. . . I’ll do the dishes when I pick it out of the chore hat and it’s not a practice..... See, there it is! But that was a practice. The system works!

It pours dark black coffee thick with a dark caramel light head. The aroma starts off with sweet roasty malts that have light creamy notes of milk chocolate. The flavor is sweet, dark fruit with some spiciness as well to round about on a medium body.

Black as can be when it was poured and the tan coloured head soon went. Great smell and taste.

Thanks for sending me this one, Dan. A: The beer pours pretty much black with a finger or so of tan colored head. S: A more approachable aroma than some of the barrel aged versions. Heavy on the roasted malts with a mild smokiness. Lots of dark chocolate and licorice with a touch of molasses and toffee for sweetness. Mild char and booze aromas, too. T: Quite a bit of chocolate and cocoa flavors to this, but still very roasty with some char notes. There is a hint of vanilla along with jus a very mild smoke and licorice flavor. M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. O: The base version of this beer is a pretty good imperial stout. It’s interesting that the barrel doesn’t always treat it so well.
