COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Thanks for sending me this one, Dan. A: The beer pours pretty much black with a finger or so of tan colored head. S: A more approachable aroma than some of the barrel aged versions. Heavy on the roasted malts with a mild smokiness. Lots of dark chocolate and licorice with a touch of molasses and toffee for sweetness. Mild char and booze aromas, too. T: Quite a bit of chocolate and cocoa flavors to this, but still very roasty with some char notes. There is a hint of vanilla along with jus a very mild smoke and licorice flavor. M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. O: The base version of this beer is a pretty good imperial stout. It’s interesting that the barrel doesn’t always treat it so well.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, caramel and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet dark chocolate malty flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

A deep dark stout with a very thin brown head, viscous and thick. In aroma, an interesting and complex herbaceous chocolate, briny qualities, coffee grinds, almost meaty. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with light acidic cherry blossoms, coffee grinds, viscous bodied, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle from Boutip, shared with GRM, Probstk and Ian, Dec. 2 2011.
