COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Russian Imperial Stouts are one of my favorite styles of beer and Dark Apparition is with out a doubt my favorite beer to brew. We stuff 850lbs of malt into our 7bbl mash tun. By the end of the mash dark malts are spilling onto the brew house floor. I wanted this beer to include all the great flavors I admire in my favorite Russian Imperial Stouts chocolate, coffee, roast, dark fruit, caramel, and some nice earthy/spicy hop character. The color is midnight black and the body is extremely chewy and dextrinous. Dark Apparition is a huge beer with tons of character.

22oz bottle from sliffy... Pours a deep black with just a hint of lighter reddish brown hues that is topped off with a thin wispy tan head... Aroma of roasted malt and semirich chocolate with a little char... Flavors are smokey with char and ash upfront with thinner chocolate body. Somewhat cola-ish with a bitter twang in the finish.

More like a cola heavy porter than an Imperial Stout. Lots of brown sugar, caramel, almost no chocolate or coffee. Not really stout-y at all.

This poured a very dark brown almost black color with a tan head. Aroma was a good amount of dark roasted malts, light dark coffee and dark chocolate, a bit of soy too. Flavor was lots of dark fruits and roasted coffe, less burned chocolate than most Impy, good, not great.

From growler brought from brewpub. Pours a pitch black with a very small head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, slight roasted malts. Flavor is mellow, chocolate, coffee, malts. Alcohol somewhat present - though not overpowering. Pretty darn good.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown/black pour with a thin beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, espresso and dark fruit. The flavor is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee with dark fruits. The finish is dry with some black coffee bitterness and a slight earthy character. This is best enjoyed at the brewpub in Athens.

22oz bottle sampled at the DC Local Tasting. Pours a slightly watery, opaque black with a thin, tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, coffee, nuts. Flavor is nice, coffee, nuts, brown sugar, chocolate. Finish is silky and smooth. Sweet, drinkable.

On tap. Had this after trying the vanilla and coffee versions. Of the three, the standard was definitely my favorite - had the best balance, naturally. Good, lighter brown head. Black color. Good lace. Nice roasty dark malt aroma, with light coffee / chocolate notes. Nice moderate bitter taste. Bigger body, lighter carbonation. Good stuff.

Bottle @ZZT IV: Small and quick disappearing brown head on top of a black colored beer. Smellis a strange mix of iron, vinous notes and some light cherry notes. Taste is more subtle and fuller either: lots of red fruit, light vinous, some roasted barleys, light bitter, spices, light sour (red fruity sour). Different approach of and Imperial Stout, but pretty nice. Aftertaste is a mix of spices, with vinous notes and some creamy barley malts. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture.

22 oz bottle. Dark, almost black, that pours still with a few tan bubbles. Nose is molasses, chocolate, coffee and wood. Medium body with a faint tingle. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, burnt sugar, greens and licorice.

1ltr growler from George. Rating #39. Dark black pour with a medium brown head. Milky chocolate aroma, dark malts. Light bitterness, more chocolate and very enjoyable. (1232)
