Tap at the brewery. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt, dates, prunes and licorice, earthy and woody hops. Flavor is malt dominant with dark fruits, spices, light hops and medium bitterness with a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Draft sample on the brewpub side. Pours a deep coffee brown with a small beige head. Not much nose here, but there are notes of roast, chocolate, earth, and tobacco in the flavor that only show up as the beer warms in terms of the aroma. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a dry, roasty mouthfeel. Nice stout.

Growler shared with the group (11/2012). Pours dark brown with a smaller beige head. The aroma has a pretty hefty dose of coffee and roasted malts and lighter chocolate character. The flavor opens with black coffee and roasted malts, some chocolate/mocha toward the finish. Very good flavor, especially considering the abv. Nice sessionable stout.

Sample at Jackie Os Public House on 1/22/13. Black pour with a thick tan to light brown head. Malty and chocolatey nose with notes of maple and roast. Malty and chocolatey flavor with some walnut character before a roasty coffee finish. Reminds me a lot of Oil of Aphrodite, despite the absence of walnuts. Must be that Athens terroir or something. Either way, a mighty nice beer. My new favorite session beer.
