On tap at Jackie o’s public house in Athens Ohio. Drawn and portered is a rich dark brown beer with a tan foam of small bubbles. Nose was medium roasted malt that was rich with warm roasted nut aroma. The taste was rich warm and nutty. The body was silky. A very nice porter.

Draft at Jackie-O’s. Pours a brown color with a beige head that leaves some lace. Notes of chocolate, nuts, tobacco, and earth. So simple. Light-medium bodied, with a dry mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really easy drinking porter.

Tasted from draft at brewery. Pours a dark brown with beige head. Pretty good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee. Taste is the same. Sweet up front with a pretty bitter finish. Chocolate, roasted malt and coffee flavors. Dry aftertaste. Medium to full bodied. Solid beer overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Helmut brought this one to the 12/2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a growler this beer poured a black color with a small soapy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was roasty, bitter and dryish with notes of anise and floral hops. The flavor was dryish and bitter with moderate floral hops, anise, brewed coffee and an astringent presence. Long roasty anise and floral hop finish. Medium body. Eh.

On tap at the brewpub, poured in a shaker pint. I think the stated ABV at the time was closer to 6 or 7 %. Nice, thick foamy brown head leaving good lace. Nice, light crisp carbonation, dry texture. Bigger body, but very drinkable. Nice, roasty dark chocolate flavor. Good bitter sweet taste. Good long sweet toasty dark malt aftertaste. Very well-done, respectable porter.

Poured a dark brown with a small tan head. Nose was pretty choco-roasty, a little fruity. Taste is classic roasted malt with appropriate hop bitterness as backup. Initially I didn’t notice, but this one has quite a carbonation issue---a bit too much. The hops never quite make a statement in this...a bit too sweet in the end. .

Draft @ Jackie O’s. Pours dark brown with reddish highlights and a sizable tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate and a hint of some toasted bread. The flavor has a nice roasted malt base with additional notes of chocolate and nuts. The finish is moderately bitter. I can’t speak to the earlier versions of this beer, but it is a solid drinking porter today.

Tap sample at brewpub. Poured hazy dark brown hue with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to ful body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Flavor was moderate toasted balanced sweet with an average bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good brew.
