Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a reddish brown color with a medium tan head. Fairly poor head retention. No lacing. Aroma of rich, sweet roasted malts and coffee. The taste is roasted malts, coffee, cherries, bitter dark chocolate and a faint bit of smoke. Medium bodied. Nice.

On tap at the brewpub - 12.30.2010. Pours near black with a good mocha head with moderate retention and a nice cap as it falls. The nose is quite nice with a load of roasted malt as well as a nice chocolate presence. A few hops in the background add a nice dose of complexity. The taste is pretty roasty with a nice chocolate presence to back it up. Good balance between sweetness and roast in the feel. Drinks quite well and is another solid hit out of Athens. This poured a dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of lighlt roasted mlats, some sweeter chocolate and light hops. Flavor was much the same, a very mild drinkable porter, but unfortunately mild sometimes means bland.

GABF 2009. Pours dark brown with an average, fizzy light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toasted grain), light hop (herbs), average yeast (leather) with notes of date, wood, and charcoal. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. Some lacto noted.

Sample at the brewpub. This Porter is a dark brown color that lets some light through. Medium light beige head that diminishes quickly. Aroma of mild chocolate and roasted malt. Medium body with flavors of milk chocolate, roasted malt and a touch of hops. The flavors are short-lived though. The finish is chocolate up front with a short coffee aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Pint at the brewpub. Pours brown with a medium tan head. Caramel malt aroma with a hint of roast. Sweet caramel flavor up front with a teeny bit of roast and hop bitterness on the back end. I prefer a bit more roast character, but not bad.
