MrBunn (2450) - The Wet Side of a Dry Town, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 9, 2014
On tap at Jackie Os. Black body with a tan head and aromas that are thick with pine and resin. Kind of like a Simcoe and Centennial love child or something. Flavor is a little bit too much though. Lots of resin and bite, but not quite enough there to hold it up.

Tap at the brewery. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast and coffee malt, earthy and herbal hops, and prunes. Flavor is bitter dark malt, moderate hops and bitterness, dark fruits and a dry finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, char, hop oils, citrus. Flavor is very roasted initially and then the hops start to kick in- grassy, resiny hops. More char/roast in the finish. Very good, hearty black IPA. 8/4/8/4/14 (3.8/5)

phaleslu (6278) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 18, 2013
Draft sample from the Public House side. Pours a deep brown color with a small beige head that leaves some lace in the glass. Notes of dark chocolate, earthy hops, toast, nuts, and faint citrus. Light-medium bodied, with a dry mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really solid Black IPA. Dry and smooth and balanced.

On tap at the brewpub. Black with lots of lace. Very roasty and the hop flavour right there as well. Chocolate.

I was a little leery of this one as dark beers with pine can swing wildly in either extreme. This one worked well although with Meigs in the name I was expecting hemp in the aroma. The roasted malts give this a smoothness in the taste that works well with the pine and citrus tones from the hops. I liked it but put this in the category of getting "old" quickly.

Dogbrick (7627) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a brownish-black color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with notes of malt and hops. Light to medium body with flavors of toasted malt, piney hops and a bit of coffee. The finish is hoppy up front with a roast malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
