COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is that big sticky hop elixir that I have always wanted to brew. Columbus and Warrior hops lend an assertive bitterness. Amarillo, Simcoe, and Centennial hops give this beer tons of great flavors of grapefruit, tangerines, and pine needles. A big dry hop addition of Amarillo and Simcoe give Mystic Mama a nose to stand up to the flavor. Soon to be a year round addition.

A west coast styled IPA that uses 5 different hops (Centennial, Amarillo, Warrior, Simcoe, Columbus) giving it tons of flavor, aroma, and an assertive bitterness. 7% abv with the ability to get you hop trigger firing!

I had to maneuver myself through the white reggae concert crowd at brew week to score a growler of this. I enjoyed some of it back at the hotel while watching some excellent tbn ministry coverage. The 7.1 percent is hidden very well. I got alot of floral hops at least more so than citrus. Very well balanced. It had a session amount of bitterness to the taste, not too much but not too little. I did get more citrus in the flavor though. Overall a solid beer.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks solid; a slightly hazy light orange with ample fluffy off-white head that dissipates slowly. Smells good; grapefruit and grassy hops. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. A damn good IPA.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2012 Thanks Helmut! Sampled from a growler this beer poured a hazy golden-orange color with a medium foamy white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was strong resin, faint catbox and was bitter yet tangy and sweet. The flavor was bitter and tangy resin, orange and catbox. Long resin and catbox finish. Fairly full bodied. Intense and enjoyable.

On tap at the brewpub. Nice glowing orange pour, with a real heft to it along with a creamy head. Sweet tropical nose that recalls one of the better Alpine IPAs. Nice malt underpinning things, and there’s a creamy, substantial mouthfeel. It could in fact be slightly less hefty but overall the buoyant tropical fruits and moderate herbal flavors come through consistently. Enjoyable.

This beer poured a hazy light amber color with a small beige head that fades slowly. Some light lacing is left behind. The aroma is fruity, citrus hops along with some light toffee notes. The flavor consists of orange, grapefruit, and some lightly sweet malts. Very nicely balanced for an IPA. The mouthfeel is light and slightly watery. Light to medium-bodied. A solid IPA

Tap sample at brewpub. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy west coast hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bitter flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium duration. Very good brew.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of herbal and floral hops and caramelly malts. The taste is bitter citrus and earthy hops. Medium bodied.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2011 on tap, reviewed 4/26/2011. Very cloudy, dark yellow appearance. BIG hop bite, extremely bitter. I’m a big IPA fan, but this beer was way too bitter. Something might have been wrong with my taste buds last night, but I almost feel like this might have been a bad batch. Very piney flavor, with tropical tones. Pineapple, maybe. Palate was excellent however, nice and crisp. Long-lasting aftertaste, but with the extreme bitterness this wasn’t necessarily a good thing.. The flavor couldn’t carry it. 5/4/3/4/9

Re-rate: 10/25/2011. Pint on tap at the brewpub. Mildly hazy amber-orange color, minimal white head. Some lace. Dry, hoppy nose. Really a sharp bitterness. I appreciate it more now, but it’s still so poignant. Good crisp carbonation. It’s still a really odd, assertive taste for me, pretty much overwhelms the aroma... But I’m appreciating this more with every Jackie-Os brew I try. Extreme assertiveness seems to be a trademark of theirs.

On tap at the brewpub on December 30, 2010. Pours a slightly-hazed moderate golden color with a good white head and a bit of lacing as it goes down. The nose is quite nice with quite a bit of tropical fruits as well as some strong citrus and a bit of pine. The flavor isn’t quite is in-your-face, but the hop flavor and bitterness mix well together with a touch of malt in the background. Also a mild diacetyl presence in the flavor that wasn’t in the nose, but it’s definitely hard to pick out through the hops. Good body and a nice overall bitterness level. Good drinkability. This poured a darker yellow color with a white head. Aroma was a good amount of tropical/citrus fruit and some pine as well. Flavor was very fruity hops, but there as no blend with the non existant malt. A bit hollow and watery for an IPA but still a decent amount of good hop flavor.

Poured into a sampler glass from draft. Appearance is nice, translucent copper with a good sized white head. Aroma is fairly hoppy and floral. Resin, grass, citrus and everything good wafts to my nose from the glass. Taste is just like the aroma, but the hops aren’t so assertive as to offend though. Just a nice hop bite and then you’re done. Medium bodied.
