4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheAlum (4359) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - APR 29, 2012
Bottle shared at Dark Lord Day 2012 (Munster, IN). Pours a rich blackish hue, rich and opaque with a frothy tannish head that dies to a film, laces ok. Aromas are dark chocolate, dark cherries, sweeter with cocoa, some spirit, vanilla, toffee, and some lovely essence. Initial is medium bodied a touch a thinned withj dark cherries, black cherries, touches of spirit, some cocoa, coffee, and toffee. Vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Middle is sticky malts, touches of barrel, spirit grows. A touch inviting, finish is dry and mellow barrel, lingering cherry. Very nice.

On tap at Jackie-Os, served in a snifter. Pitch-black color, a little bit of medium-brown head. Awesome chocolate syrup nose-smell. Lovely dark bitter chocolate aroma, the cherry accent works very well with it. Not over-powering. Good sweet and bitter taste that lasts well through the aftertaste. Light, crisp smooth carbonation. Nice drier texture. Some tart sweetness.

This poured a darker brown color with a tan head. Aroma was of sweeter cherries, lots of roast and dark chocolate, and unfortunately some diaceytl. Flavor was much the same very sweet, cherries there, dark and milk chocolate, with a buttery finish.

Poured on draft into a sampler glass. Appearance is black with a thin, tan/purple head if foam. Aromas of chocolate and cherry come to the forefront with notes of coffee and vanilla making their presence known further in. Taste is mostly chocolate, but there is a slight cherry presence in there behind the coffee. This is a nice, subtle rendition of the Oil of Aphrodite.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Tmoney99 (8844) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 21, 2011
Draft sample. Poured a black color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark chocolate, cherry and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted dark chocolate cherry flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Draft sample @ 8/27 bottle release. Pours dark brown/black with a medium sized tan head that disappears quickly. The aroma is very similar to the original with the addition of some dark cherry fruitiness and enhanced chocolate character. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, dark cherry with the nice black walnuts found in the original. I liked this, but have it just a notch below the vanilla.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 burg326 (2391) - Florida, USA - SEP 10, 2011
Poured pitch black, with the same aroma as the regular oil of aphrodite with a suubtle cherry aroma. Taste was out of this world, it reminded me of the choclate covered cherries you buy near christmas time. You also get a slight nnutty flavor as well. As the beer warms you get a more prominent walnut flavor with some hints of coffee. Thiis maybe a 10%more beer, but sure as heck didn’t drink like one, really good, smooth, and easy to drink.

On tap @ Jackie O’s. Dark Pour with a thin patch of beige head. Aroma is you guessed it chocolate & cherries added to the mix of the normal Oil. Very nice treatment that adds a new level of complexity
