COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout with an astounding texture. Multiple different chocolate and caramel malts from all over the world give this viscous brew a colossal character. Belgian candied syrup and locally harvested black walnuts build upon the fortified character, boldly standing up to its voluptuous body. After spending two months aging in stainless steel, the oil was placed into a rum barrel. The oil rested in the rum barrel for an additional 8 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience.

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours oily pitch black with a rather small creamy dark chocolate brown head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and boozy with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, rum soaked raisins, roasted nuts, dark roast coffee, prunes, alcohol, toffee, burnt caramel, liqueur filled chocolate pralines, vanilla milk shake, prunes and dates. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour and malty with heavily roasted malts, charred wood, rum soaked raisins, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, toffee, butterscotch hard candy, alcohol, heavily roasted nuts, caramelized almonds, moist soil, rum and coca cola, brown sugar and hints of cuban cigars. Mouthfeel is round, soft, burning boozy, tiny roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. finish is bitter and boozy with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, rum soaked raisins, roasted nuts, toffee, vanilla fudge, alcohol and peppery wood. Hot burning rum supplements the heavy roast quite well. Very tasty...

Sampled at Kennys. Thanks Ben. Black with some tan foam. A very nicenose of spices, dark fruit, cinnamon, and rum. The flavor almost keeps up with the aroma. More malts and wood. Some soy. This one has a lot to offer.

Bottle 115/216. Black pour with medium tan head. Nose was sweet cola syrup, toffee, rum, cocoa and almost could smell oxidation on the nose. Wierd. No oxidation in the taste, though.. Taste is cola, nice rum barrel incorporation. Wasn’t overwhelming, but light and vibrant. Also picked up toffee, cocoa, and marshmellow. I dig it, but perhaps a bit thinner than I thought and not the best nose.

Thanks to Roman for sharing! Pours a near opaque black with tan head. Huge nose, rich dark malt, licorice and molasses. Taste big...nutty, super rich malt, rum, molasses and ends with a bit of alcohol burn, char and dryness. Full body, thick and chewy.

22oz bottle, #62/206 from the 2011 batch, courtesy of my good buddy deftim13. thanks so much, Tim! pours rich and oily, probably the densest Jackie O’s stout i’ve seen, with a razor thin, rusty brown head that leaves oily sheets of lace on the glass. aroma is simply wonderful with heavy notes of burnt brown sugar, toasted malts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and boozy rum backed by prunes, dark chocolate, candied walnuts, and a touch of vanilla icing. flavor is absolutely delicious as well with loads of dark chocolate, iced coffee, black malts, and sweet toffee backed by dense, dark rum, spice cake, chocolate trail mix bars, and rich vanilla. palate is full bodied with light carbonation and a boozy, warming finish of nutty rum cake. overall, a great imperial stout and one of the best i’ve had from these guys.
