on tap @ Jackie O’s. Dark pour with little to no head but not still. Really complex aroma consisting of rum vanilla, raisin, walnut, and roast. Velvety and alcoholic up front with a sweet nutty finish. The vanilla really seems to linger. Stunning beer

Had this at the August 27th bottle release. A couple 4 oz pours from tasting snifters. 4.5 A: Black. Came with nearly no head, but the light brown head that was there stuck around a while and left some lacing. 5.0 S: Wow! The regular is already wonderful, but now its perfect. Rich chocolate, caramel, decent general maltiness, black walnut nuttiness, and candi sugar. The rum and barrel adds plenty of vanilla, some oak, and of course some sweet rum. 4.5 T: The taste is similar to the smell. Chocolate, caramel, walnut nuttiness, moderate toastiness, soft roastiness. The rum and vanilla are quite strong in the taste and indeed probably a bit stronger than in the nose. 4.5 M: Heavy body, but on the lighter end of the spectrum. A decent bit thicker than the regular. Great creaminess and super smooth. 4.5 D: Great base beer. Great treatment. I could drink Oil all day. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-02-2011 02:56:12

On draft. Appearance is black with a thin head of tan foam. Not much lacing, especially when compared to the perfection of it pre-barrelled counterpart. Aroma is reminiscent of rum balls. Chocolate, nuts, nougat, and rum. The rum is the predominant in both taste and aroma. Long finish of walnuts and rum.

Draft... Dark brown with a light tan head... Smells great, rum with nuts and brownies, rich and decadent... The taste pulls out more of the rum, a bit to alcoholic, especially on the finish, not as rich or sweet as it smells

22 oz. bottle shared by Brad during 2011 RBWG - Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, hints of chocolate, dark esters, and wood. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of vanilla and light nuts. Full body. An excellent beer.

alexsdad with the hookup 3/4/11. thick and on the edge of black with a nice brown film on top. aroma of fun fruitiness, vanilla, caramel, roast, spiciness and chocolate. the flavor mirrors along with some dates, spiciness, ash and a light tartness on the finish. super roasty vanilla aftertaste. medium/fuller body... tartness and ashiness help make me want a lot more. 8/5/8/4/17

A: The pour is black as night with a finger of tan head. S: Lots of roast and charred barrel/oak to begin with. The vanilla and rum notes come through after that and, strangely, so do the walnuts. Plenty of coffee and dark chocolate with a touch of spice (from the rum?). T: A strong flavor of dark chocolate and roasted malts up front, followed by lots of rum, vanilla, and charred oak. There is a very distinct nuttiness and only a moderate coffee flavor. Like with the aroma, there is a slight spice note. M: The body is medium to full with a medium level of carbonation. O: One of the best Jackie O’s beers I’ve had to date. Really nice stuff.

@RBWG-22-thanks to alexsdad–pours a dissipating brown head and black color. Aroma is vanilla, rum, sweet chocolate/cocoa-dark malt. Taste is vanilla, sweet chocolate/cocoa-dark malt, some hops bite.

Huge, huge thanks to Eric for opening up this bottle last night. This has been one of my bigger wants ever since I first had the regular Oil of Aphrodite. It did not disappoint. Bottle 168/192. Served in a Bruery tulip. I damn myself for not remembering to pull out my Jackie O’s snifter. Pours nearly black with a thin mocha head and some light lacing. Some legs on the side of the glass as well. The nose initially brings forward a good dose of dark rum and some walnut. Chocolate and light roast in the background. The flavor really melds the rum, chocolate, and malt very, very well. The walnuts come through more toward the finish. The rum provides for an exquisite finish after a very full-bodied brew. Simply excellent. One of the better beers I’ve had in a long time. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-13-2011

Bottle@RBWG--thanks. Black color with a tan head. Big chocolate sauce, deep roast malty aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Very nice chocolate sauce, rum spice flavors with dry wood-- very good.
