4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2011 Vintage bottle 68 of 206.
Aroma is full of dark fruit with lits of plum, fig, prune, berries and cherries. Moderate chocolate character with some light roast. Light oak and rum notes. Hints of alcohol spice.
Pours black with a small, somewhat thin, dark mocha head that quickly disappears to the edges. Faint lacing with sheets of alcohol.
Flavor has some nice lighter dark fruit notes than in the aroma. Plum, prune and cherry. Moderate chocolate and roast notes. Nice barrel and alcohol notes that compliment the dark fruit and malt notes well. Moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall an enjoyable beer and better than the regular Oil of Aphrodite. The oxidation is either not setting in or is hidden behind the alcohol notes. The rum is fairly indistinguishable from a different alcohol, but it works really well with the beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, I provided this one. Pours completely black with a thin, cascading brown head that leaves thin lace. The nose is black walnut liqueur, molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla, and some bitter chocolate. The flavor is lightly sweet, with tons of vanilla, nutty liqueur, molasses, very complex. The body is syrup thick with light carbonation and a long nocino, vanilla, and bitter coffee finish.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A fine imperial stout was a great deal while sitting at the recently opened tap room. Heavy and thick this requires some patience to fully appreciate. If you just want the tick have a few friends. Otherwise it would make a great winter warmer.
Aroma / Appearance - The mocha head and icy legs accompany a heavy black body. Heavy on the rum the nose is thick with dark chocolate, malt, and sweetness. Things mostly work though the ABV is evident right away.
Flavor / Palate - Malts and rum sweeten the palate. A small amount of cloying texture is distracting. Soon though it is masked by the barrel aging. Licorice and coffee help recover from a profile which is well done for the most part. I’d love to try a few other varieties to see how they compare.
