COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout with an astounding texture. Multiple different chocolate and caramel malts from all over the world give this viscous brew a colossal character. Belgian candied syrup and locally harvested black walnuts build upon the fortified character, boldly standing up to its voluptuous body. After spending two months aging in stainless steel, the oil was placed into a rum barrel. The oil rested in the rum barrel for an additional 8 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience.

Bottle@RBWG--thanks. Black color with a tan head. Big chocolate sauce, deep roast malty aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Very nice chocolate sauce, rum spice flavors with dry wood-- very good.

Bottle: The aroma is good dose of dark chocolate and rum with light roasted coffee. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights when held to the light and a small khaki head that quickly fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with chocolate and fruit There’s a strong rum presence in the finish...too strong for me as I’m not a rum fan. Moderate vanilla is also present in the finish. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Too much rum presence for me.

This brew pours black with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate and rum. Rich, smooth body with flavors of roasted nuts, dark malt, booze and chocolate. The finish is malty with hints of dark fruits and rum lingering behind. Very good beer all around.

Sampled at Nashville Beer Summit 1.22.11 - Kind of speed tasting unfortunately at this point. Aromas of rum and alcohol. Bark bigger than its bite in terms of the alcohol presence. The beer really took to its barrel. Creamy and delicious. I could drink this all day. Well done.

sampled during the 2011 RBWG weekend thanks to Alexsdad06, pours thick black with a medium tan head that spiderwebs around the glass. Aroma is toffee, raisin, dark fruits, yeast and roast. Flavor is marshmellow, toffee, oak and rum which lends a nice sweetness in the finish.

Draft samples at the release (bottle since). Pours a very dark brown/black color with a medium creamy tan head. The aroma is decadent rum covered dark chocolate, vanilla, and roasted black walnuts. The flavor expands upon the nose big rum dipped chocolate, nuts, and dark caramel with dark fruits and vanilla. Full bodied and creamy smooth. This was one of my favorite beers of 2010 and I wish I had more to enjoy.

Bottle shared by Mike. Thanks! Pours pitch black with thin head. Aroma is roasted malt with intense rum alcohol notes. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is a nice mix of the rum, oak, vanilla, roasted malt, and finishes with a semi sweet note. A very nice beer. I thought it was going to be an alcohol blast when I smelled it. But its got a nice balance.

Bottle shared during RBWG. Pour is deep brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma shows notes of molasses, caramel, light roasted malt, nuts, and rum. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of dried dates, vanilla, and oak. Overall body is moderate to full and finishes with some nice warming alcohol.

Bottle at RBWG 2011. Pours opaque black, thin dark tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is spirity, spicy bananas, cinnamon, fresh green herbs, fudge. A very unique and almost tropical nose, it has to be the rum barrels kicking in that banana character.... Flavours of toasty banana, spice, massive butte3rscotch notes here too. Big, round, butterscotch and booze. Really hedonistically pleasant.

Shared at RBWG11: Black oil color with a healthy tan head. Smells like chocolate, nuts, caramel, roasty malts, rum, and some dried fruits. Sweet chocolatey caramel taste with a backing of rum, malts, and nuts. Delicious taste with a warm alcohol and clean finish.
