At the Kernel. Big thanks to Brad from JackieOs for bringing a bottle over and a very big thanks to the Kernel crew for sharing and saving me some! Opaque dark brown beer, little tan head. Rich dark malt. A little coffee and a trace of vanilla. Lovely rum and raisin ice cream with rich dark rum and a perfect amount of peppery spice. A little wood. Finishes semi dry. A fantastic rum barrel beer!

Draft sample at JO’s. Poured a black color with a small fizzy brown head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark nuts, rum, woody and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted nutty and rum flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Pretty good retention. The nose offers lots of dark, aged rum and boatloads of chocolate accompanied by walnut shell, a splash of brandy and a modest hint of molasses. A faint herbal component is also present. Full-bodied, extremely thick and sticky with supple carbonation. The flavor imparts aged dark rum sweetness complemented by rich mocha, vanilla, walnut meat and caramel. Lengthy, luscious, semi sweet finish. Thanks go out to darkguardian for sharing this delicious beer. World class all the way!

Nearly black. Brown head. Aroma and flavor are almost exaclty like dark chocolate candies filled with rum. Some nice vanilla peeks in...delicious!

A: The pour is black as night with a finger of tan head. S: Lots of roast and charred barrel/oak to begin with. The vanilla and rum notes come through after that and, strangely, so do the walnuts. Plenty of coffee and dark chocolate with a touch of spice (from the rum?). T: A strong flavor of dark chocolate and roasted malts up front, followed by lots of rum, vanilla, and charred oak. There is a very distinct nuttiness and only a moderate coffee flavor. Like with the aroma, there is a slight spice note. M: The body is medium to full with a medium level of carbonation. O: One of the best Jackie O’s beers I’ve had to date. Really nice stuff.

2011 bomber, #31/192. Poured inky black with an almost equally dark brown head. The aroma picked up a lovely bouquet of dark malts, with dark chocolate, espresso, rum, and dark fruits, with vanilla and peppery accents.. a little metallic barrel around there too.. Loved it! The flavor found near-burnt dark chocolates, raisins, and vinous notes at the core, with peppery rum, charred oak, and walnuts laced throughout.. more sour and delightfully dry on the very long finish. Heavy-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. the rum, rich malts, and barrel worked great together!

This brew pours black with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, chocolate and rum. Rich, smooth body with flavors of roasted nuts, dark malt, booze and chocolate. The finish is malty with hints of dark fruits and rum lingering behind. Very good beer all around.

Bottle. Pours black with chocolate brown head. Nose is vanilla, nuts, chocolate, rum and Candi Sugar. Taste is initially nutty with coffee and candi sugar, which gives way to a long finish of rum, velvety smooth chocolate and pleasant warming alcohol.
