Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout with an astounding texture. Multiple different chocolate and caramel malts from all over the world give this viscous brew a colossal character. Belgian candied syrup and locally harvested black walnuts build upon the fortified character, boldly standing up to its voluptuous body. After spending two months aging in stainless steel, the oil was placed into a rum barrel. The oil rested in the rum barrel for an additional 8 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience.

Bottle #116/192
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtisí old house, I provided this one. Pours completely black with a thin, cascading brown head that leaves thin lace. The nose is black walnut liqueur, molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla, and some bitter chocolate. The flavor is lightly sweet, with tons of vanilla, nutty liqueur, molasses, very complex. The body is syrup thick with light carbonation and a long nocino, vanilla, and bitter coffee finish.

375ml bottle pours dark brown black with small tan head. Nose is fruity, light minty spice, cola, nutty, brownie and bakerís chocolate. First sip is huge nutty notes up front which give way to fruity cola, some herbal spice and mint, bakerís chocolate and dark brownie. Finishes with some balanced sweetness, light acidity, dark fruits and char, roast dark nutty chocolate.

Bottle to snifter. Thick and oily. Lovely nose of rum barrel aging. Started out fantastic but as it warmed it definitely got a little tart. Shouldnít have waited so long to drink as itís definitely started to turn but still pretty good.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2015 Bottle to glass. Black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate with some spiciness. More complex than the base alongside . Taste is a tad tangy, not the chocolate bomb the base is. Itís light bodied and the coating on my mouth is a tad off. I donít get the spicey warmth from the rum. Not my favorite.

12.7 oz bottle. Dark brown with tan froth. Nose is molasses, rum, candied nuts and plum. Oily medium body with a tingle and some heat. Taste is walnuts, rum, golden raisin, chocolate and wood. Needs some mellowing to shine.

375 mL bottle shared by Spencer. The pour is a medium to dark black with a thin ring of darker tan head and no real lace to be found. The aroma is really sweet. There is a nice booziness here the roast takes a back seat as does the discernible walnut aspect. The flavor is good. There is a nice sweetness and a good roast that is overshadowed by the sweet rum. There is a little barrel but the rum sweetness dominates. The mouth feel is thin and watery. There is minimal carbonation and a slick quick fading aftertaste. Itís sweet with a touch of walnut and a sweet booze out the back. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Received as an extra in a trade. Thanks AMCimpi! This is a very unique beer that I find difficult to rate. Pours a deep brown to black color with a thin creamy light brown head. Aroma is sweet, black licorice, roasted malts, rum, nutty. Sweet and nutty in the flavor. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a very nice beer.
