COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candy syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by pacific northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness. Lay this beer down for a while and share with friends and loved ones. After all, beer should be enjoyed and remembered; this is why quality and character are at the heart of every beer we produce.

2011 vintage, bottle 293/348. Aroma is fairly fruity with some dark cherry, prune and plum notes. Medium light chocolate and light roast character balance out the fruit notes. Light anise and medium light walnut notes. As it warms tobacco and leather also become present. Pours black with a small, somewhat thin mocha head that steadily recedes to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing with medium long legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with medium chocolate notes. Medium walnut also present and more noticeable than in the aroma. Light fruit notes, but still moderately strong notes of cherries, berries, prunes and plum. Light oxidation showing itself with a slight soy sauce and cardboard character. Low roast character, light tobacco, leather and anise. Moderate bitterness with some alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and frankly a bit watery. Light astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall an interesting beer, but I think I may have laid this one down for too long as the soy sauce note was a bit too strong. I was also surprised by how comparatively thin the mouthfeel was. Nice walnut notes in the flavor though as well as good dark fruit notes.

Good imperial stout. Pours nice black with brown head. Aroma is caramel, cocoa, and im guessing walnuts. The walnuts come through on the flavor with a solid roastiness and an interesting and unique malty profile that has a richness that is nice.

My last sample for the night was this excellent imperial stout. Another quality release from Jackie O’s gives me something to look forward to when I hit the local stores. It also makes me want to go to the next bottle sale.

Aroma / Appearance - The oily black base has almost no head. Slow slick legs crawl up and down when agitated. Walnuts, coffee, smoke, and a rich earthiness ground this base version and provide the foundation for the other versions.

Flavor / Palate - Walnuts and biscotti coat the tongue with nutty desserts. Chewy like a half melted candy bar it is effective for a 10% ABV imperial stout. Straight black coffee in the finish wraps up with a creamy feel. From start to finish there are few flaws in this top notch example of the style.
