Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candy syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by pacific northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness. Lay this beer down for a while and share with friends and loved ones. After all, beer should be enjoyed and remembered; this is why quality and character are at the heart of every beer we produce.

Look - Very dark body. Little head with aggressive pour. What head did develop bubbled slowly from the bottom. Tan. Not so much lacing as sediment (or very small bubbles) on glass. Smell - Maple. Chocolate. Coffee. Earthy. Taste - Sweet. Chocolate. Nutty. Coffee. Bitter in the finish. Feel - Heavy. Mild carbonation. Warm with alcohol but not overpowering. Overall - I had to look at the label twice to make sure I wasnt drinking the barrel aged version. Good stuff. Warms you up. BA still in storage.

12.7oz bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is of malt, dark fruit, nuts, and chocolate. Taste starts off with a hop bite, that is evened out by a toasty malt backbone. There is also dark fruit, chocolate, and walnut. Lingering nutty taste. After it warms up, a lot more walnut comes through. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. Body is medium and sticky, with a fair amount of carbonation. The alcohol is well masked, but very warming. It tastes good, and it drinks easy.

As I open the bottle, I expect a whirlwind of olfactory color, and thats exactly what I get; a deep aroma, rich with a blend of Belgian malts and candied syrup; sweet breads, lightly browned caramel and nuts. The glass is a snifter, perfect for delivery to both my olfactory and gustatory senses; I tip the bottle for a small pour at first, allowing temperature change a dynamic hand in my experience. The brew is a visual masterpiece; pouring thick, the head rising slowly. The dark caramel foam, creamy and stiff, floats heavily on the surface and is affected little by smaller movements of the glass. My first sip is an eye opener. The 10% ABV is not at all abrupt and lingers in the backdrop, but this beer is much too drinkable to be any less than dangerous. Theres no heat, the nuttiness of the walnuts is mild, but very apparent, and the blend is phenomenal! You dont need those bourbon barrels when the original is this good. Flavorful and rich; the sweetness of the Belgian influence only buoys the umami forward taste; not complicating, but complex. My palate is awash with flavor, the thick, full body of this brew is sticky on my tongue and consistent while it lasts. Even the carbonation is just right for me, the body just bright and lively enough to be exciting, but not so buzzy that its wrong. The finish is somewhat long, but each sip I take brings me closer to the end of the bottle...bittersweet, for sure.
