COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candy syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by pacific northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness. Lay this beer down for a while and share with friends and loved ones. After all, beer should be enjoyed and remembered; this is why quality and character are at the heart of every beer we produce.

Bottle from alexsdad. Thanks! Pours a deep black with almost no head. Aromas of nutty roast, deep malts, a touch of tobacco and maybe a pinch of dark fruit. Taste is semi sweet and lightly bitter. Heavy, thick oily mouthfeel. Flavors of dark fruit, some ash, round nuts. Black phallus. Big, bruising beer. A touch cloying, but not so much that I cant chug it. Decent, not a world beater.

Bottle from a recent trade. So happy I got to try this. Pours a thick back, oily tar in my snifter. Some mocha head. The aroma was black currants, raisins, dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, anise, plums, and graham cracker. The taste was dark chocolate and cocoa nibs up front, transitioning to dark fruits like prunes and raisins, ending with caramel, vanilla, and graham cracker pie crust. Thick, full mouth and body. Chewy chocolaty finish. Very good!

Bottle during the RBWG Lobby Share. Pours a clear brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is licorice and wood. Medium mouth with dark chocolate, rich malt, light booze, lingering dryness, very good.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy molasses, moderate chocolate, light caramel, nuts (though Im not sure I can really pinpoint them as walnuts), vanilla, and faint roast. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a one finger tan head that eventually settles to a thick film outlined by a thicker ring. There is a decent amount of thick webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy molasses and just a tad bit lighter chocolate. There is also some light caramel in the middle. The finish has light nuttiness, roast, vanilla, and dark fruits/plum. Its medium-full bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, its good, but Im realizing that Im generally liking molasses heavy Imperial Stouts less and less.

375 ml bottle into snifter, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, nuttiness, dark bread, raisin, plum, light licorice, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, walnuts, and moderate dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, dark bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, light licorice, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, dark bread, nuttiness, raisin, plum, light smoke/char and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, walnuts, and moderate dark fruit flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, smooth, fairly slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, walnuts, and moderate dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
