Bomber courtesy of Alexsdad06 – thanks Brad! Pours pitch black with a one finger brown head. The nose is roasted nuts, vanilla, roasty malt and molasses. The taste is ashy cocoa, nuts, roasted malt, brown sugar and coffee. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Tasty brew.

32 ounce growler filled earlier today at Blacklick Wine and Spirits. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch tan head that stayed around a while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, bittersweet and milk chocolate, nuts/walnuts, and some dark fruit. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt and a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s slick and syrupy with moderate carbonation. I think this is a pretty good stout, next time I’ll have to get a 64 ounce growler instead! Definitely worth trying if you come across it somewhere.

On tap at The Pint Room in Dublin. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma is nutty and roasted malts. Tastes are dark chocolate, coffee, nutty, wood, oats, some dark fruit maybe (little stuffy now, so hard to tell). Very nice. Covers alcohol well.

Merry Christmas. It's officially the holiday season. Arguably, one of the top Christmas ales. Smooth taste. Nice palate.

Bottle (22 oz). From AlexFields, thanks! Black with a medium mostly lasting beige head and moderate lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, walnuts and light smoke. Taste is slightly sweet with dark chocolate, nuts, roasted malt, light smoke and light bitterness (from the dark chocolate?). Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Good Imperial Stout. Well balanced. Mostly chocolate and nuts, which give an interesting take on the style. Palate is a bit weak.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a small tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is loaded with roasted malt, sugar and booze. Intense. Taste is sweet with chocolate and caramel flavors. Medium bitterness from the roasted malt. Alcohol is better hidden in the flavors than on the nose. Mouthfeel is smooth and cream. A good imperial stout.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pretty dark pour with creamy brown head. Aroma of dark, dark chocolate, woody notes, very nutty as well, lots of hazelnuts (or black walnuts, whatever). Taste is intense dark chocolate, like 99% cocoa, almost too bitter for enjoyment. Palate is oily, think with very light carbonation. Solid stout.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very impressive stout. The nuttiness was the driving taste then to a hint of chocolate. Beautiful black color with a full brown head that dissipated nicely. Alcohol legs that stayed in the background.

Bottle Number 107/192
11/08/2010: Jackie O’s Oil Of Aphrodite... Aroma: Black walnut at first, then semi-sweet chocolate. Appearance: Near black color like old motor oil; dissipating brown-colored head. Flavor: Rich dark chocolate; hint of licorice; roasted nuts; black strap molasses; earthy bitterness that grows; green leafy hoppiness; medium ground coffee in the finish and aftertaste. Palate: Thick, yet oily and smooth; sticky on the lips and coats the mouth nicely. Overall: Quite yummy.
