COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The paw paw fruit is something we take great pride in. The Native fruit of Ohio and one that flourishes here in Athens. A tropical fruit tree that grows in in a temperate climate and produces a one of a kind experience. Flavors of mango, banana, and a touch of melon.

In 2003, our good friend Kelly Sauber brewed the first paw paw beer utilizing locally harvested paw paw fruit from Integration Acres. We are now very proud to bring Paw Paw Wheat back and to you all!

Found a single at Mutach’s Marblehead. Paw Paw wheat is a hazy apple juice hued brew with a very small head of white active bubbles. Nose is an odd blend of fruit scents that probably is paw paw. I’ve never ran across the stuff. Some banana and some watermelon? Taste is just a little sweet with the strawberry/melon flavor of the fruit. There is a bit of natural honey in there. Not overpowering. very tasty. Body is silky and there is no overpowering hops to ruin the party. a very nice fruit beer. I don’t know what a paw paw is, but they do make this beer one to try.

Bottle from Corner Stone. Yellow gold pour with visible carbonation and a thin bright white head. Aroma of banana, honey, tropical fruit, wheat bread. Taste follows suit with a slick chewy texture. Orange and mix tropical fruit and bread. Well constructed if not to my tastes.

Bottle, RBAG 2014 prelim. Hazy gold, average white head. Yeasty and wheaty with vague stone fruit accents, but no papaya for me. Disappointing but not awful.

Cloudy golden pour with light white foam. Aroma is light citrus fruit (paw paw?). Taste is a bit flat, some light fruit, not much else.

Bottle - Wheat and a starchy stone fruit. Cloudy gold with a white head. Light odd stone fruit, starchy and not too sweet. Not good or bad, just plain.

Bottle thanks to Jstax ! Pours a hazy medium golden color with two fingers of white sudsy foam. The nose is fruity like fruit loops cereal with some dusty sun soaked wheat traces laying beneath the fruit. Palate has a nice fruity base with layers of mango, tangerine, cantaloupe, some watermelon rind bitterness and rustic grain lingers. Nice balance of fruit and grain.

Paw Paw Wheat comes in a thick walled brown bottle adorned with a colorful Polynesian looking label. Pouring the beer into my tulip glass yields a translucent golden-amber colored liquid topped by three fingers of pure white head that dies off fairly quickly without leaving much lacing behind. As I bring the glass up to my nose I can smell the Belgian yeast and mild aromas of sweet tropical fruits. The taste starts out rather unassuming, grainy flavors from the wheat malts, a bit of vanilla, and a touch of sweetness. The Paw Paw fruit flavor shows itself toward the end of each sip. If I were to try and describe it to someone who has never eaten a paw paw (like me), I would say it tastes something like a mango. I also pick up some spicy black pepper like notes at the finish. The 9% abv is well hidden. The mouthfeel is quite thick, borderline syrupy. This is not a light bodied, easy drinking fruit-infused American Wheat Ale, but something more in line with a Belgian strong golden ale. The Paw Paw aroma and flavor are fairly subtle, but they do become more pronounced as the beer warms. It’s a well crafted beer that I enjoyed, but I’m not sure it is special enough to warrant the $6 price tag.

Fairly hazy, light orange, minimal head. Light citrusy notes, banana, mango aroma. A lot of wheaty character and some light citrus. Smooth paw paw finish.
