3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled 2011 #63/209
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours hazy auburn with an average beige head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is sour and fruity with candied lemon peel and a touch of caramel malt. The flavor is the same tart and sour fruit, a touch of candied lemon peel, and the same underlying caramel malt. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long tart finish.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2011 vintage, bottle 151/204. Dark brown color. Thin off-white head. Dots of lace. Oaky, blackberry nose. Chocolate, dark fruit n the aroma, nice big oak, light tannin. Bigger body, smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Tart, kind of sour taste, moderate sweet, light bitter. Bigger chocolate, I like that. Good, complex, dark sour.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle shared by alexsdad06- thanks a ton, Brad! Been wanting to try this one for a while. 2011 vintage, bottle 151/204. Pours a cloudy amber with a small beige head. Aroma of fruits (I get plum, apple, and berry, because I don’t know what quince is), mild spice, oak, sweet and toasted malts. Flavor of lemon, berry, plum, caramel malts, and sour mash. A little vanilla and funk. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sour palate. Didn’t all come together that well for me. Brad said other bottles have been totally different. I’d be interested in trying another batch.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber to snifter (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a cloudy amberish brown with thin light beige lacing. Smells vinegary with some malt too. Tastes like it smells, only better, with a solid mouthfeel. Okay.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1/12/2011: Jackie O’s Quincedence... Aroma: Combination of dry red wine and chocolate. Appearance: Brown, clear; thin, frothy, tan-colored head. Flavor: Dry, smoky, cocoa; tart-sour finish; deep red wine. Palate: Medium body; calm texture; nice body. Overall: Tastes like a stronger version of New Glarus Unplugged Old English Porter.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep rusty brown with traces ruby caramel on the edges and a finger or so of eggshell foam. The nose is the first indication that this beer is bubbling with complexity... Complex malts, wet wood, vinous fruit, tart citrus, cured meat, chocolate... wow, what the hell is this ? The palate just sings... the complexity is in check and the flavors all play harmoniously with one another... evolving from one spectrum to another. The cabernet character is amazing with ripe full roundness that softens the mouthfeel and adds just enough tannic vinous fruit structure that goes hand in hand with the bright quince fruit... as the palate moves into the finish the caramel malt and traces of peat emerge and linger with sour oak and cocoa touches... Wow one of the most interesting and unexpected beers Ive had the pleasure of drinking. Thanks Dave !

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
19th September 2011
Opaque black - brown beer, little tan head. Light sourness on the nose. Light crisp palate. Pleasant sourness, not too sharp. Brett. Seltzer minerals. There is a sharp fruitiness but not something readily identifiable as quince. Mild dark malt background. Finishes semi dry. Nice dark sour.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber, 2011 vintage, #171/204. Poured deep brown with a very nice cap of smoked beige head.. looked great in the glass. The aroma picked up sour oak, vinous notes, and dark fruit joined by a little smoked peat and aged caramel.. as it warmed up, red wine and fruity, funky Brett stood out.. I loved the nose here. The flavor was remarkably good as well.. opened tart with mixed fruit, red vinous notes, and apple skins.. toasted caramel, chocolate, and peaty malts supported.. more tangy vinous notes, apple skins, and coconut around.. finished with dry, fruity Brett, vinous notes, and charred oak. Medium-bodied and moderately sour throughout the palate.. great balance, and all the components managed to work exceptionally well together.. great stuff!
