Bottle at the DC Local Gathering on 8/1/2015. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, caramel, cocoa. Tastes of dark chocolate, caramel, roast, some tart notes. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Tart notes are weird, possibly slightly infected?

Some citrus, light smoke and light caramel. Light tangy finish. Brown pour. Pretty good stuff. Definitely better than the regular, though this tastes so different from the other it makes me think something happened in the barrel. In any case it was a good thing. Bottle shared at tasting.

Bottle (22 oz). From cparles, thanks Chris! Hazy amber with a medium beige head and light/medium lacing. Aroma of rum, spices, boozy notes, caramel, sweetness and brown sugar. Taste is slight to moderately sweet and, unfortunately, sour/acidic (light, but disturbing) with rum, spices, caramel and alcohol. Medium but weak body. Low carbonation. Acidic. Nose is good, but the taste seems to be infected, or at least too acidic for the style. Weak.

Bottle 22oz. Pours black (or very dark brown) with low beige head. Aroma is of malt, sugar, dark fruits, alcohol. Taste is of malt, sugar, dark fruits, alcohol, very slight bitterness. Palate: Medium body. Overall: Good. Sweet and malty. Not cloying. Not an homerun though.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with no head. Aroma of rum, brown sugar, raisins, brown malt, caramel. Flavor is quite sweet, woody notes, annoyingly lightly sour again. The light tartness isnt too bad flavor-wise, but it really ruins the palate. Big malty beers that should have rich full palates have puny little thin, acrid malt water palates. This one retains some oilyness to the palate, but mostly because it is almost flat. Oh well.

This poured a lighter brown with an off white head. Aroma was lots of rum, caramel, some dark fruits. Flavor were similar, rum was too strong like most of their rum barrel beers, but a solid barleywine behind it.

Draft sample during 7th Anny. Pours a murky brown color with a small creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have rum soaked caramel, vanilla, wood, light toasted nuts, touch of roast, hints of earth with a touch of bitterness to the finish. Great sipper, finishes on the dry side. Probably less rum influence than the bourbon influence in the other.
