Bottle thanks to Sean! Shared at the Homer "welcome to California" tasting. Pours dark black, small brown head, decent lacing. Aroma is rummy, raisins, dark roasted malts, chocolate. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, anise, rum and chocolate malts. Lightish body. Decent for sure, but not really coming together for me.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Interesting aroma. Sweet dessert feel but non distinct. But the taste is thin, watery, somewhat astringent. Rum and roast are there as well but... Oof, big letdown.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark with a brown mocha like head. The aroma is full of dark and lightly roasted malts with a nice chocolate scent. In addition there is a defined rum and sugary sweet aromas. The rum aging adds a touch of spiciness and oak scents. As I taste this brew I noticed the booze and the heat from it. The rum adds a pleasant taste. As for the other ingredients I noticed a sugary sweetener, chocolate, and dark malts. The finish was very enjoyable, the intensity of the alcohol fades, and my palate was slightly compromised. Overall I enjoyed this brew but the alcohol potency in the flavor takes away from the other ingredients. I did enjoy the walnut aroma, it was a good additive. I would also recommend this to anyone who loves their rum.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2011 Vintage bottle 68 of 206.
Aroma is full of dark fruit with lits of plum, fig, prune, berries and cherries. Moderate chocolate character with some light roast. Light oak and rum notes. Hints of alcohol spice.
Pours black with a small, somewhat thin, dark mocha head that quickly disappears to the edges. Faint lacing with sheets of alcohol.
Flavor has some nice lighter dark fruit notes than in the aroma. Plum, prune and cherry. Moderate chocolate and roast notes. Nice barrel and alcohol notes that compliment the dark fruit and malt notes well. Moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall an enjoyable beer and better than the regular Oil of Aphrodite. The oxidation is either not setting in or is hidden behind the alcohol notes. The rum is fairly indistinguishable from a different alcohol, but it works really well with the beer.
