COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout with an astounding texture. Multiple different chocolate and caramel malts from all over the world give this viscous brew a colossal character. Belgian candied syrup and locally harvested black walnuts build upon the fortified character, boldly standing up to its voluptuous body. After spending two months aging in stainless steel, the oil was placed into a rum barrel. The oil rested in the rum barrel for an additional 8 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience.

22oz bomber. Pitch black pour with a non existent head. Nose of roast, nuts, and booze. Taste is similar with a slight sourness that doesn't really belong. Nice alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel not that enjoyable. Oily and rather dead. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle pours an oily opaque black with one ring of white head. Nose of cake icing, caramel, vanilla beans, toast, cola. Flavor is sweet, roasted malts, caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, cola, light licorice. Full, roasty, slightly hot finish. Well balanced.

22 oz. bottle, pours a viscous black with a small tan head. Aroma of rum barrels, walnuts, candied sugar and more rum barrels. Flavour is dominated by the rum barrels, with loads of vanilla, candied sugar and no more hint of walnuts. A lot more viscous than the regular impie, dominated by the rum barrels. Finishes very rum-y. Solid stuff, but a bit much.

Nice full body dark pour. Lingering light tan head. Initial taste comes through balanced, malty, dry palate flavor on the sides of the tongue. Rum comes through at the end with a smooth molasses and dry toffee finish

Tap at JO’s anny party, tough to not homer the crap out of this. its a solid stout lots of flavor a touch sweet for me but nothing cloying the rum flavor imparts a nice touch of vanilla almost in a different way than a bourbon treatement, really solid.

Shared tonight with friends Pours an inky black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates as soon as it musters. Smells of alcohol, oak, rum, dark sugar, chocolate, roasted coffee, and oily nuts. It really a unique aroma, at times I get a creme brulee thing going on then it seems like burnt caramel or roasted nuts. It’s very complex. The flavor follows the aroma with a bit more alcohol heat than the the aroma promised. Nutty rum and chocolate flavor with a hint of stout and coffee. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet boozy mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this beer, but a bit less alcohol burn would have sent this to the stratosphere for me.

Vintage 2011 bottle, #31/206, shared by badnewsbeers. Opaque deep brown body, thin discontinuous brown head. Rich, dry nose with oak, rum, and cocoa, nutty/meaty and surprisingly delicate. Warming body with rum, oak, walnut, and alcohol fronting dry and dusty cocoa. Velvety, rich and dry. Subtle, complex, and very good.

Bottle to snifter (thanks Nate). Looks good; flat and viscous. Smells really good! Sweet and rummy! Tastes okay, but thinner than I expected. Diacetyl. Good beer though.

Bottle from Jeff - thanks! Black, nearly still pour with a small amount of tan foam hugging the edge of the glass. Aroma is rum, dry roast, light chocolate, toffee, some underlying sweetness both from the malt and candied sugar, and walnuts. Taste is rum up front mix with a dry roast and chocolate character followed by sweet malt and a focused melange of raisin, toffee, and perhaps plum through the finish. Very interesting balance between the rum, dry roast, and sweeter notes through the finish. Balanced and enjoyable.
