COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This chocolate oatmeal milk stout is a tribute to all things sweet, robust, and decadent. An American styled stout made with copious amounts of flaked oats, semi sweet chocolate bars, and lactose sugar. The chocolate bars were tempered with hot wort over the kettle utilizing the steam from the boil. Additions of the tempered chocolate were frequent throughout the entire boil. Lactose sugar was added to provide its signature sweetness to help accentuate the robust chocolate character. A chocolate stout for chocolate lovers ABV: 7% Malt: American 2-row, Chocolate, Roasted Barley, Black Patten, White Wheat, Special B, Belgian Aromatic Hops: Amarillo, Hallertau Character Builders: Semi-Sweet chocolate, Lactose Sugar, Flaked Oats.

Big thanks to Deuane for bringing me this growler back from a recent trip to the brewery. Thanks again buddy! Growler poured into a duvel tulip.

A - Pours pitch black with a nice half finger tall dark tan head leaving very light lacing down the glass.

S - Tons of sweet chocolate and dark roasted malts mix well with a bit of lactose sweetness and the faintest hint of booze to create the core of this beer. More and more chocolate comes thru as it begins to come to room temp.

T - Plenty of chocolaty sweetness mixes well with the dark roasted malts, ground coffee, and lactose sweetness. Finish has plenty of sweetness throughout but it gets a bit hot as it warms up. Pretty good stout but nothing too mind blowing. I am looking forward to trying some of the other offerings from Jackie O’s.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. A bit thin but no big deal there. Finish has plenty of dark roast and strong chocolaty sweetness.

D - Pretty good. Based on the fact that I drank nearly half the growler myself I must have enjoyed some part of this one. The balance was good but it was just a bit too sweet. Still pretty good tho.

Sample at the brewpub. Brownish-black pour with a medium creamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Sweet chocolate and malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of chocolate syrup, roast malt and mild coffee in the background. The finish is sweet with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

Nitro draft sample on the brewpub side. Pours a coffee brown with a creamy beige head. Abundant chocolate here, obviously, along with coffee, cream, toast, and earth. The milk chocolate is definitely there, but also some more bitter dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Delicious.

On nitro at the brewpub. Very drinkable and yummy chocolate. Slightly higher alcohol than listed.

Tap sample. Poured a black color with a large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy dark chocolate malt, toasted oats and milk sugar aroma. Medium to heavy dark chocolate flavor with a medium to heavy sweet candy finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good rich beer.

Received in a pint glass. 3.5 A: Black color. Came without a head. 3.5 S: Quite chocolate-ty with deep caramel notes and molasses. Hints of diacetyl. Supple roastiness and oatmeal to round this off. 3.5 T: Sharp chocolate, caramel, slight woodiness, oatmeal. Again, hints of diacetyl. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy. 3.5 D: Tasty beer that works with or without a bourbon barrel. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 03-25-2012 21:04:52

Poured on draft. Appearance is a a dark brown with a thin, khaki colored head of foam. Aroma is loaded with chocolate but has a nice subtle oatiness to it. Taste is sweet and roasty. Aftertaste is a sweet chocolate that just sets on the tongue, begging you to give it some more.

Growler shared by Kan at Stoutfest 2012. Thanks! Pours a rich blackish opaque hue, inky and thick, rich and dark. A frothy darker brown head sits atop, laces ok. Aromas are sweeter overall. Offering cocoa, roast, toast. Gentle caramel, coconut, and toffee. Touches of spice. A bit more tame than anticipated. Initial is fuller bodied offering vanilla and cocoa, touches of toffee, vanilla, and cocoa. Rich flavors mix with coconut, toffee, and cocoa. Touches of dark fruit. Middle offers less thickness, more drinkability, with vanilla, spice, and life. Mellow sweetness pervades. Finish is mellow dry citrus, touches of bitterness, spice, and sweet deep malts. Nice but lacking oomph. Silky sweet palate works well here.

This came out on tap at Jackie-Os on 2/14 this year, I was looking forward to trying it since they’d announced that it was upcoming on their blog. Didn’t make the connection that it was a V-day beer until I showed up that night, but whatever -- this is legitimately a fantastic chocolate stout, despite the gimmickry. It definitely delivers in the chocolatiness department (I often find a lot of chocolate stouts to be lacking there). Black color, great creamy brown head, leaving plenty lace. Really great-looking. Excellent, thick and creamy texture, bigger body. Slight viscosity / oiliness, but it’s an appropriate amount for this type of beer.. Light and crisp carbonation makes this easy to drink still, as does the balance. Good taste - really sweet, but balanced with enough bitterness to back it up. How chocolate should taste, really.. it’s of the darker chocolate variety, but the milk stoutiness comes through wonderfully making this like an really rich chocolate milk. Very fair price at $4 each, and an outright steal during power hour ($2 each). Really delicious - was still wowed by it after the first pint, so I had another... Another half-pint was all I really needed, though, 32oz of this stuff can be pretty intense. No way I could have finished a 3rd. Like actual chocolate, this is one to enjoy in moderation - something to treat yourself to. It fulfills it’s niche very well, it is what it is.

Sampled at Nashville Beer Summit 1.22.11 - Probably my least favorite Jackie-O’s beer thus far, but it’s still damn good. An excellent sweet stout. This beer has nothing to be ashamed of. Dry cocoa powder notes. Lush and delicious. Milky and creamy. Milk and dark chocolate. Yum. Jackie-O’s keeps rock’n it.
