Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours cloudy and dark brown with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The aroma is a collection of bourbon, caramel, toasted malts and plums. Medium-bodied with gentle carbonation. Caramely-chocolaty-meaty-malty flavor that also offers mild acidity drawn from the plum skins. Finishes sweet, caramely and lightly tart. Big-time THANKS to a big-time friend, darkguardian, for sharing this unique, world class Scotch ale!

Thanks to Brad for sharing this at his tasting on Saturday! This beer pours a thin looking brown, with virtually no head or lace whatsoever. Pleasant aromas of sweet malt, with oak, wine, and bourbon. The taste is completely dominated by wood. The barrel taste really overpowers the tannin, bourbon, and any other flavors trying to emerge. There is an unexpected slight sourness, though not necessarily in a bad way. The mouthfeel is just too thin. Unfortunately, this aspect of the beer really affects the overall score in almost every category. This was a really cool beer, but just not quite what it could be. Perhaps subsequent batches will build on this and improve.

One tap at the brewpub. Pours a moderately-dark brown with a good off-white head followed by a thin collar. The nose brings the barrel character forward with some mild bourbon plus a bit of light roast. Overall, the components are fairly shy. Light chocolate there as it warms. The taste adds in small amounts of dark cherries and some dark fruits. Light sweetness and a bit of bourbon. Body is medium with light carbonation. Pretty good; I enjoyed it. This poured a darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was a good bit of bourbon, some honey and peated malt. Flavor was very sweet caramel and toffee covered in bourbon. Really nice beer.

On tap into a sampler glass. Dark brown appearance with a beige head. Aroma is lots of coffee. Had I not known better, I would say this beer was a stout. Taste is dark roasted coffee, bitter and a bit harsh. Not necessarily something I would want very much of, but it is a nice sipper.

bottle at RBWG, pours dark brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is strong bourbon. Flavor is maple syrup and bourbon, very one dimensional.

July 17-19, 2008: The Scottish Wee Heavy is brown, clear, and has no head. It has some almond, citrus, a very slight hint of smoke in the back, and is slightly nutty. I don’t detect any alcohol in the flavor. This beer is too light and too thin. My friend Rob described it as an "Imperial Red" and I would have to agree. It is just lacking in malt, complexity, and body.

Draught sample at Jackie-Os Pub and Brewery in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2008. Rating #4 for this beer.

half gallon growler, filled on the day i drank half of it, this is a tasty treat, which tastes precisely like a bourbon barrel beer would, tons of bourbon vanilla and type flavor, equivalent to a Founders Kentucky stout, just plain delicious... glad i have this right up the street, growler is a tad expensive @ 24 a pop.

Assuming this is the "Wee Heavy," this beer was poured straight from a growler brought from the pub by a friend of mine. It pours a slightly light brown color, with a off-white tan colored head. Aroma is slightly smoky with a burbon (if I’m getting it right). The flavor was nice, bold, and powerful. Very enjoyable.
