COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was brewed as a collaboration between Jack’s Abby and Lawson’s Finest Liquids. Valley Malt malted all the 2-row malt in addition to the specially smoked malt with hand-sourced wood from VT. Brewed with one gallon of maple syrup per barrel of beer. An addition of lactose sugar and brown malt rounds out a beer that tastes great from breakfast till dessert. Enjoy! May 2013 release.

500mL Bottle. Thanks Sean! Small campfire and sausage nose. Flavors are kind of underwhelming, with a crystalline sugar glaze that comes out tasting like a weak version of everything they wanted it to be. There’s not much smoke in the flavor, there’s not much maple, and it’s just kind of a bland, lightly smoked Brown Ale without much depth or intrigue. Bummer.

Draft at Blackback. pours a deep brown, hazy withe an offwhite head. Nose is quite sweet, noted beechwood type smoke. Faint mapley notes suggested and toast. On tasting, it is definitely on teh sweet side. Has a balancing bitterness but beer overall tends sweet. Low caramel, the lactose is kind of out of place, imo. Clean smoke and neat, just far too sweet.

7/3/13. 500mL bottle shared by nulledge. Murky brown pour with a small khaki head. Light smoke in the aroma, but still that nice smokey bacon aspect with touches of maple. The flavor again has a dose of bacon smoke aspect, but not too much, well balanced with the malts and maple sweetness. Tasty... breakfast in a bottle.

Bottle at Aaron’s shared with friends. Pour is clear orange-amber with a small cream-colored head and decent lacing. Big smoky, BBQ, charcoal, slightly fruity, bready, and toasty aroma. Taste is smoky, fruity, lightly tangy, a touch of sweet pears, apple, bread, meat drippings, and honey with a crisp bite on the finish. Medium body with high carbonation. The smoke is really used nicely in this one.

Bottle @ home, shared by Steve_0. Thanks Stephen! Pours a bit hazy dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Woody, campfire smoky, caramel, a bit sweet, herbal, maple sappy aroma. A bit earthy, toffee, maple, sweet smoky, light meaty, woody, herbal, light fruity flavor. Pretty tasty, fun beer.

Received from Allen, thanks a bunch man! Poured into a BCS tulip. Pours a murky orange-brown in color with a half fingers worth of off-white head that quickly dissipates to a soapy ring of bubbles around the glass. Nose is all smoked malts, it reminds me of an aecht scherlenka. Maple is lost on the nose though. Flavor is smoke as well with a little sweetness on the finish, no maple whatsoever though. Mouthfeel is light and slightly slick, carbonation is good, and it has a light to moderate finish. Pretty solid smoked beer from these two, pretty drinkable and isn’t oppressively heavy handed with the smoked malt.
