3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2013 Bottled, no date. Poured into a lager glass a hazy golden color with a humongous frothy head the subsided and laced very well. Aroma was a whiff of gingers and not too much else, maybe a bit of breadiness. The taste was therefore a surprise. Just a touch of ginger, but holy grapefruit, Batman! The bitterness from the rind and albedo, yet a fresh grapefruit juice note works underneath and brings some tartness and sweetness. The ginger comes back on the end with a bit of tingle and dryness. The body is medium, kind of smooth. Overall. It isn’t strong enough in ginger for me to call it a ginger beer, but reminds me more of a grapefruit shandy if I mixed a medium body lager with fresh grapefruit juice.
The citrus and ginger really linger in a very pleasant way. Hours after drinking, still have a very faint flavor of grapefruit and the ginger tingle. Nice. This would pair well with seafood, maybe Thai food,.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle in a tulip (old bottle - 2012). Pours transparent copper with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of light ginger, some light grapefruit, a little citrus and floral hops, and some pale/wheat malts. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything. Average texture. This beer would be great fresh, so I can’t wait to try it again.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sample at brewery. Better than most of the ginger beers I have tried though probably because the ginger is very subtle in this one. The grapefruit is more noticeable than the ginger and the hops predominate.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very heavy ginger in the nose. Nothing much else. Flavor is similar but with a nice hoppy bitterness added in. Light citrus.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Hazy amber orange color, massive off white head. Aroma of ginger, obviously. Taste is bitter straw and roots, sour citrus. Interesting. Couldn’t drink a lot of this one, though.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500mL Bottle, purchased at Provisions - Northampton, MA. Spiced bread aroma reminds me of the holidays and long naps in front of the fire. Soft and yielding. Some discordance builds on the palate, with brutal, fresh raging greeness, a polyphenol orgy, pithy. Spicy, but only licked lightly with ginger, in the raw, abrasive fresh way. Underneath, a pigmented and punchy hop demon lies, but there’s confusion up above that prevents the hops from glowing through. It’s almost as if the muddiness of the sharper more piquant flavors up front prevent the more delicate hoppines from being expressed. The brew feels a little confused, but is obviously well made and generally delicious.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a very bright orangish color with a big white fluffy head. Nose is very fruity and juicy with light stingy ginger notes. Palate is clean with a light efferverscentness that plays well. Flavors of ginger, citrus juices, a good mouthfeel and a clean refreshing finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is impressive. Very. Spiciness is mild and works extremely well with the hop presence. Jack’s Abby makes a unique yet highly drinkable beer. The lagering works well here as it fuses the flavors in a way the spiced ales fail to do (see Head, Dogfish). Drink now.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A fairly clear orange color with a white head. A very nice hop aroma with lots of floral and citrus notes to it. Plenty of fresh ginger, light pine, and some bread and biscuit malts. The flavor has a light bitterness to it, as well as a touch of malt sweetness. Very good ginger flavor, rather plentiful citrus and floral hops, and just a hint of pine.
