This is an intensely hoppy and strong lager that we refer to as a Double India Pale Lager. Over four pounds of hops per BBL of New Zealand hops (Kiwi Hops) were used in progressively larger hop additions throughout the brewing process. Four kettle hop additions, whole leaf hops in the hop back, and multiple dry hop additions infuse an intense floral and citrusy aroma. No kiwifruit or kiwi birds were used in the production of this beer.

Iím am seriously impressed here. This is one of those beers that takes brewing into a new area that hasnít been done before. India Pale Lagers are a new trend, that in my humble opinion, have not been perfected, because if what you want is a well made hoppy beer, then why not have an IPA, why go to all the trouble to find a lager, but this was different. Instead of trying to hide the fact that its a lager and confuse the palate, this celebrated being a lager, and used the New Zealand hops to great effect. Get your hands on this one.

Very strong hop aroma followed by a strong hop flavor. This beer has a full taste but a bit too happy for me.

500 ml. bottle. Thanks Mike! Pours a cloudy gold with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus and other tropical fruit. Taste is grapefruit, lemon, other tropical fruit, pine, grain, and malt. Very good. Not sure of what style it is, but who cares.

Wiggle. My back hurts. This did not help as much as i had hoped. Strong citrus hops on pale malt. Pale malts shine tbru with the crisp pine hop flowing till abrupt finish.

So after buying this about 3 weeks ago, I left it in the fridge and it STILL will not clarify. I donít understand! Either this is some very non-flocculent lager yeast (seems very doubtful) or these hop particles just wonít settle. Either way, the beer is still hazy, albeit not terribly so and deep sunny-orange colored with a clumpy white head that is well retained (in clumps...). Lots of lacing.
Very bitter and piney, this reminds me much of the ABCS (which I didnt rate due to the same annoying resistance to the sediment dropping out). Lush green, leafy resinous hops are backed by a mostly dry pale malt sweetness, while some earthy tones from the hops and a touch of doughiness from the yeast persist. Bright and crisp citrus notes break through on the very end and increase with warming, but itís just not 100% bright hop aroma due to the sediment.
Pillowy malts provide ample body, as a creamy carbonation aids in balancing the hop assault as well. Pine, grapefruit rind and lots of lemon all build up on the palate, crescendoing in to a bitter, but not obnoxiously so, finish that is robbed of some of its resin sting thanks to the comforting malt texture and sugars. Really nice mouthfeel, not even too out of balance, but I just donít care for the hop flavor really. Itís tons of tangy, almost sour pininess and extremely dry ctirus rind. I can see why this gets the rating it does, but not my cup of tea. On the plus side, my second bottle of ABCS has finally gone clear after sitting in the fridge for 2 weeks.

A: Hazy yellow/golden color with a strong white/foamy head with nice retention and sticky lacing down the sides. S: Pine upfront with tropical fruit, melon, grapefruit, and some nuttiness. T: Like the aroma, piney, citrus and tropical fruit, some grapefruit, a little pineapple, and again a little nutty. M: Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking. Kind of chalky. O: Decent beer was hoping it was better fresh and it is just slightly, if I were able to regularly get this I would be inclined to drink this every so often.

Is this an imperial lager, or is it a IIPA. Not sure where one ends and the other begins. Pours pale and almost clear with nice white head. Reminiscent of the newest Victory IIPA. Starts like a IIPA finishes clean and crisp like a lager. Nice beer that I was glad to share with my little brother. Bottle - Received in Trade

Pours a golden-orange, nice fluffy white head. Aroma is sharp with citrus hops, some malty sweetness and a hint of booze. Taste follows the aroma nicely. Lots of big hop flavors. Bitter and slightly boozy but balanced by a big malt profile and the ensuing sweetness. Very nice lager.

Bottle to snifter. Pours a golden orange with a rather large head. Citrus, floral and resin on the nose. Very nicely hoppy on the tongue with a decent malt backing. Somewhat sweet. Nicely intense.

.5 liter bottle. It pours a nice semi-clear golden orange with a huge, fluffy white head. The aroma is bready with big hop character. Grapefruit, gooseberries and strong florals backed up by fresh baked bread. Very nice. The flavor is an onslaught of hop goodness. Sweet grape, grapefruit, and peach backed up by a dry spicy character finishing with a floral bitterness in the back of the mouth. Not much malt character save a bit of honey and bread on the palate to smooth things out. Amazing beer. Iíve been floored by the hoppy pilsners coming from these guys.
