COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 2012 harvest on our Mom & Popís farm was fruitful and this brew uses 100 fresh pumpkins and 40 organic squash. We prepared, cooked, and pureed all the gourds with the help of our friends at Carrie Anneís Modern Diner. A blend of autumn spices adds to the intense pumpkin flavors. Uses locally grown Triticale from MA. OG 13.5 / IBUs 10 / ABV 5.5%

500 mL bottle purchased from Learyís an hour ago for $3.80. Checkout was excruciating, however. Contemplating not going back. To tulip, it pours a rusty sinopia with a creamy Navajo white ringed head barely a fingernail in length. Aromas of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger), red kuri squash, lavender, celery seed, graham crackers, peppercorn, and cardboard. Tastes accentuate its maltiness by a 3rd; pumpkin meat and spices detected. Very thin body. Respectable.

Bottle from Julios. Pours a pumpkinish orange with very little head. Very subtle spice and pumpkin flavors which makes this better than most of the other ones out there in this category than tend to be overly spicy or have artificial pumpkin flavoring.

bottle. pours a clear copper with a quickly fading dirty white head. notes of sweet cooked pumpkin pie, toasted pumpkin seeds, caramelized brown sugar, with a toasted nuts and marshmallow. okay, touch too sweet for my liking. hits the sweet pumpkin pie drink character up well enough. fine.

Bottle: † Deep amber, hazy, large frothy sandy head, nice lacing. † Nose of nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and perhaps a hint of clove. † Smooth on the tongue, all the aformentiond spices albeit no clove is coming through. † Simple yet clean. † Body and mouthfeel are moderate. † Starts out slight sweet, but loses it sweetness quickly. † Finishes with subtles spices. † Nice example, would be a bit better had it been a bit sweeter on the backside.

500ml bottle in a tulip. Pours dark amber/brown with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of pumpkin, spices, some pale and caramel malts, and a little bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not bad, but the flavors are a little light and the pumpkin is off in some way.

50cl bottle pours a hazy copper amber with some thin, white head. Nose is nice, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramelized root, veg, some white pepper, almost a little cardamom. Flavor is earthy, brown sugar, root veg, carrot, parsnip, cinnamon, a little green tea. Clean finish.

Bottle from Resdstone. Pours a crystal clear orange amber color with a decent sized off white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aromas mostly of nutmeg and cinnamon with a little bit of brown sugar. The flavor is sweet with a bready brown sugary maltiness. Cinnamon and nutmeg provide the only counter to the sweetness and the malt is winning. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet spiced mouthfeel. Decent enough pumpkin beer, I couldnít drink much of this, but its better than most.

Pumpking beers are one of my least favorite styles of beer, but this one was done right. The nose reminded me of the holidays and pumpkin pie, while the spices didnít overpower the palate and let the base lager shine through.

auerbrau (3157) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - OCT 23, 2012
500mL Bottle, purchased at Provisions - Northampton, MA. Aromatics centered on roasted vegetables and baked pumpkin flesh, accented with rendered cinnamon quality. Flavors pick up way too much cinnamon, burying a detectable signal of orange starchiness beneath a sheen of spice. This feels very watery and one note, with the sugar subtleties struggling to rise above the lack of sweetness and the overall thinness. Bummer.
