COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in the French farmhouse style as a warm fermented lager. The grist contains 30% Rye Malt local sourced and malted in MA as well as Belgian candy sugar. We leave this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character. Copper in color, a spicy Rye flavor emerges in a dry yet malty finish. OG 14.5 Plato / IBUs 30 ABV 6.0% / January - May Release

Bottle. Pours medium hazy amber with a film of off white head. Nose is light nutty, toasty, and caramel malts with some spicy yeasty notes and malt sweetness. flavor is spicy malts and yeasty stuff. Malty sweet with a very toasted quality. Slightly muddy malt sweet flavor. Medium bitterness. medium sweet finish. This one had muddled malt flavors and didn’t let me pick out the flavors that well. Almost reminded me of homebrew. Sorry just didn’t do it for me.

Bottle from trevdawg...thanks Evan! - Hazy amber pour with a filmy off-white head. Nose is real grainy, with spicy rye and a real husky characteristic. Light herbal hopping and a subtle sugary sweet note. Taste is more of the same, with a nutty, spicy malt base. The rye really snaps on the finish, and you can taste the sweetness of the candi sugar as well. Not much hopping, with a dusty yeastiness throughout. Fluffy body that bites a little bit. Not something I would have thought I’d like, but this was quite pleasant.

Pretty whatever, I wanted a biere de garde and got something more akin to a rye amber lager, not funky or particularly fruity/floral, mostly spicy.

Big thanks to Lukaduke for the bottle. Nose has a good dose of floral an earthy hops. Rye and toast. Flavor is heavy on rye spice. Moderate bitterness. Bread and toast. Too much rye and spice for me.

Flowery, hoppy aroma. Flavor starts mild with caramel and a little fruit. Spice, grassy hops, and a little smoke in the finish. Ok but not great.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 bottle shared by tom10101, thanks! plus, one at home a year later. hazy golden orange with a small off-white cap, little retention. hint of sweetness and lightly toasted malts, fairly spicy and grainy, very fruity, few alcohol notes - adds a slight depth to it. moderate carbonation, light body - oily, dry short and crisp herbal-grassy-spicy finish. very enjoyable and quaffable!

Bottle (500 ml). Thanks to reynolds314. Clear amber with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma of rye and slight peppery notes... nothing really complex here. Taste is about the same with a little more spices. Body is dry, but thin. Good balance but not much complexity here. More fruity notes would have been much welcomed.

Exceptional. Traditional malt-focused stylistic accuracy. Dry finish, slight earthy spiciness and malt sweetness. fresh, moderate hop aroma, and beautiful drinkability. Jack’s Abby is doing it fucking right.
