Brewed in the French farmhouse style as a warm fermented lager. The grist contains 30% Rye Malt local sourced and malted in MA as well as Belgian candy sugar. We leave this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character. Copper in color, a spicy Rye flavor emerges in a dry yet malty finish. Flowery, hoppy aroma. Flavor starts mild with caramel and a little fruit. Spice, grassy hops, and a little smoke in the finish. Ok but not great.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 bottle shared by tom10101, thanks! plus, one at home a year later. hazy golden orange with a small off-white cap, little retention. hint of sweetness and lightly toasted malts, fairly spicy and grainy, very fruity, few alcohol notes - adds a slight depth to it. moderate carbonation, light body - oily, dry short and crisp herbal-grassy-spicy finish. very enjoyable and quaffable!

Bottle (500 ml). Thanks to reynolds314. Clear amber with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma of rye and slight peppery notes... nothing really complex here. Taste is about the same with a little more spices. Body is dry, but thin. Good balance but not much complexity here. More fruity notes would have been much welcomed.

Pours a hazy amber color with a modest eggshell foam. The aromas match the flavors with a doughy chewy backbone that is contrasted by a earthy peppery rye spice that comes mid palate and draws out the beer. Some subtle fruit pokes through and adds to the complexity.. it just never completely comes together but is interesting and worth trying nonetheless.

Pour a hazy amber with a dense off white head. Good lacing and moderate head retention. Aromas of spices and yeast. Bread malts finish with a slight bitterness. Good beer!

It just seems a little bit thin. The flavor is good but not the best of this style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear gold with a fine, foamy head. Dry, graine bread and rye and pine in the nose. Medium sweet flavor, bready malts, grainy rye, piney bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation.

Spring 2013 vintage, .5L bottle into a snifter glass. A - Pours a dark red/burnt orange body. Not as hazy as the description led me to believe. Visible carbonation slowly rises from below. Two fingers of fluffy off white foam. Lasting and sticky lacing. S - Its a sort of a spicy rye with a caramel malt/Belgian yeast finish . Just a touch of fruit and subtle skunked lager notes. Not particularly exciting, but its nice enough. T - Clean Belgian yeast and caramel malts with a light spice and fruitiness. Hop bitterness is apparent on the end. Tasty and unique. M - Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation. O - A pretty unique beer. I’m not too familiar with biere de gardes, but this does come off as Americanized saison with a nice rye spice and hoppy finish. Certainly worth a try.

Pours deep gold into a Sam glass. Off-white head with medium retention recedes leaving sheet lacing to coat surface. Sweet caramel and nut aromas. Soft with sweet caramel and malt upfront turning dry in the lasting pumpernickel bagel finish.
