COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in the French farmhouse style as a warm fermented lager. The grist contains 30% Rye Malt local sourced and malted in MA as well as Belgian candy sugar. We leave this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character. Copper in color, a spicy Rye flavor emerges in a dry yet malty finish. OG 14.5 Plato / IBUs 30 ABV 6.0% / January - May Release

Pretty whatever, I wanted a biere de garde and got something more akin to a rye amber lager, not funky or particularly fruity/floral, mostly spicy.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head that lasts. The aroma is grain, bread, yeast. Medium body, rye, candy sugar, yeast, dry finish.

Bright golden, soft haze and a decent crust of a white cratery head. Nose is creamy sweet, decent malt stale bread buzz. Initial taste is clean, zippy citrus and firm carbonation aids this. Finishes a coppery, odd bitter slurp and a linger is a bit bready sweet.

Bottle, Pigbread tasting.

Bottle: Thanks, Alex. Swampy, slightly red tinted copper, opaque & murky with little bits of sediment. Thin, gray, bubbly collar. Aroma has light caramel candies, red apple, toffee, light Candi sugar, a hint of staleness. Flavor is very, very lightly tart with some apple, grape, & faint prune. Notes of caramel malt, toffee, & lightly toasted rye bread earthy must in the periphery. Slightly bland, a touch of stickiness in the body. Decent.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, actually murkydarknotangecwith almost no head. Aroma is dusty and slightly papery. Taste is watery, thin, and pretty flat. Not good.

Bottle... Clear dirty-orange ale with a tiny, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is nutty and bready with spicy hops and bold grains. Medium-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor is nutty, boasting sweetbread, husky grains and a hint of acidity. Finishes crisp and tangy. Many thanks go out to biggsbowler for hooking it up!

Rcvd in trade. Reviewed from notes. The appearance has a hazy reddish-amber body, one finger white foamy head that quickly dies, no lacing whatsoever. The smell has pears and apples in front, some light rye and grassiness coming through. The taste is spicy yet sweet yet peppery as a fair amount of a nice rye peppery flavoring comes through to spice things up a bit and make it feel more than it should be. On the palate, it sits about a medium body, sessionable, and has a good adequate carbonation. Overall, what a nice Biere de Garde that has been lagered enough for it to be considered to be a lager. Good for Jack’s Abby, as I would have this again.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper body with a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is softly malty with a bit of bready malt, light spicy rye, and some Belgian yeast influence. The flavor is soft and earthy as well with some rye spiciness and some crackery malt. A lingering yeast influence. Still fairly dry given the fact that they added candi sugar to this. Lighter bodied with a fair amount of fizzy carbonation. Pretty interesting beer, not as big of a fan of this one as most of their other beers though. I tend to prefer their super clean and crisp traditional lagers.

Bottle courtesy of Jay at Paul’s Housewarming 2013 tasting. Pours an amber body with thin white lacing. Aroma is grainy and spicy with some light fruity floral character coming through. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of citrus fruits, spice, grain, light bready malt and flowers.

500ml bottle pours hazy orange gold with a finger of head. Nose is cereal, light fruit, grain, sweet. Taste is bready, fruity yeast, cereal, sweet malty notes. Finish is cereal, malt, no real bitterness. Probably the least impressive Jack’s Abby I’ve tried yet.

500mL thanks to WillRunForBeer! Pours a full haze orange, thicker, rocky off white foam with good formation and retention. Nice lacing. Nose is orange potpourri, soap, sanitizer, metallic penny. Taste is bitter orange, somewhat anesthetic in mouthfeel, camphor, metallic finish. Wasn’t a big fan.
