3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle after a good Christmas Day of drinking. Pours dark brown with thin beige head. Nose of light smoke and cocoa. Tastes of cherry coke, light coffee, leather, malt, light pine, and smoke. Smoke isn’t over powering and bacon/ham is subtle. Palate is thinner than you would think. Overall very drinkable and tasty.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Solid beer. It’s like a porter with a bit of smoke. A bit smoother than a porter, but well balanced. Surprisingly robust for a lager.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
pours an opaque brown with a medium tan head. the aroma has nice roastiness and a slightly sweet dark chocolate...very subtle smokiness. the flavor steps up the smokiness and this cuts down on the chocolatey sweetness nicely. the mouthfeel is medium and the finish is roasty lingering to mild smoke...a nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, as pictured. Poured a dark brown, opaque. Smelled and tasted strongly of smoke and faintly of chocolate. Not bad but not really my style; I don’t drink too many smoked beers.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
solid brew, this edition was aged in bourbon barrels by kappys liquors, and it is awesome, nice smoked flavor, getting the lager flavor as well, sort of like a porter, sort of like a black lager, very well done.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. A nice black body with a tan head that had minimal retention. Aroma had a nice smoke presence upfront. Hints of coffee and roasted malts rounded it out. Flavor was mildly sweet and had nice roasted malts. Smoke was a subtle note in the after taste. Finish was slightly dry. Nice mouth feel.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours brown with a decent beige head that diminishes to the thin film but leaves no lace. Aroma is light smoke, faint caramel and hay. Light bitter taste, average carbonation, thin watery texture, light body and a thin brief bitter finish. Not so hot.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
This is probably my favorite lager. I prefer ales. This black lager has the smokey taste and texture of a porter.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 Super enjoyable. This beer offers complexity, but not too much of anything. Not too much smoke, not too much sweetness, not too much bitter. Very well balanced and super sessionable.

draft at Blue Monk, creamy nitro body. roasted maltiness is the main component, touches of coffee, ligher smokiness adds a nice dimension. Very nice
