COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cloaked in mystery, this dark black beer skirts the line between a schwarzbier and smoked porter. The use of a small percentage of traditional Beechwood smoked malt adds complexity and balances the liberal use of chocolate malt. Notes of roasted grains, beechwood smoke and coffee accompany a full bodied and sweet chocolatey malt character. Smoke & Dagger uses locally sourced ingredients. OG 14.5 Plato

Taster at the brewery - oh yum! Light brown pour with a white head. Subtle smoky malt nose. Really nice taste. Roasted malt and just a hint of burnt wood - very well done and balanced.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Brian. Chocolate and roast. Big dark pour. Pretty nice and solid for ABV. Smoke is subtle and that’s nice. I feared a big smokey beer.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma is smoky, a bit meaty, a bit woody, with malt, caramel and a nutty note. Sweetish flavor, malty, caramelly, a bit toasty, with nice smokiness (burnt wood, a bit meaty). Medium-bodied. Decent.

Sampled this at Tap and Mallet total tap takeover. Pours an dark brown with a medium tan head. The aroma has nice roastiness and a slightly sweet dark chocolate and smokiness. The flavor steps up the smokiness and this cuts down on the chocolatey sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium and the finish is roasty lingering to mild smoke.

Sampled this at Tap and Mallet total tap takeover. Really nice. I don’t typically care much for the smoked style but this was understated and elegant. Not much different than their scharzbiers. I liked it and will see out more of the series.
