4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Good shit. 500mL bottle poured into a plastic cup at a hotel room while I watch Mark Wahlberg in Contraband, which pairs well with the beer. Despite all this the beer looks good. It pours with a medium thick head that leaves behind a slug of lacing. The beer, well, its almost a perfect melding of schwarz and rauch, equal parts represented without either dominating. The shwarz has a great chocolate lagered aspect and a smoked element that is present but nicely subdued into the black lager. Super clean with no flaws and so damn quaffable, I drank this up like it was nothing in a few minutes. I only picked up a single but I see why these are sold in 4 packs that were priced for $10.50, which seems like a great price point for such quality.

As black lagers go, this is one of the better American versions I've had. Nice soft smoky note too.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown murky pour. Lots of beige head with big bubbles. Oily smoke aroma. Flavor is a little thin. Malt doesn't have a ton of depth, but does have a solid smoke finish. Palate is slick and oily. Nice creaminess to it as well. Really good beer. I'd love this bu a campfire at night.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle thanks to Nathan. Pours a dark brown with beige head that lasts. The aroma is smoke, raisin. Medium mouthfeel with light smoke and raisin with nice smoke finish. Very nice.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Mild caramel, smoke and roasted cereals are found within this shy, somewhat generic smoked brew.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the blackness.
-Mouthfeel is excessively smooth, a tad bloated.
-The finish is roasty with a whiff of smoke.
-Donít think the nitrogen-rich carbonation helped the malt flavors that much in this one.
On nitro tap at The Dirty Truth.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown to light black under a small wispy beige head. The nose is dry and roasty with a bit of chocolate and a light hint of smoke. A nice light licorice like note as well. The flavor is dry and lightly roasty with a light bitterness and some minimal smoked notes. Finishes fairly dry with some light hops. Light to medium bodied with soft natural carbonation. Some light lingering roast. Pretty nice schwarzbier, but doesnít really cross over the line in my book to be considered a Smoked.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Bottle (12oz)] Pours a dark amber-brown with a large lasting frothy beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, smoke and fruit along with light piney hops, light vegetal notes and hints of coffee and chocolate. Flavour is malty and chocolatey along with light smoke, light hops, lactic notes and coffee. Medium bodied, almost creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good, I liked it.

From a 12oz bottle. Thanks Shawn. Very interesting beer. I think this is the 1st "smoked" beer i have had, although I could be wrong due to being stupper. OK, so I have read other reviews of smoked beer, and I noticed bacon mentioned. Maybe this is just me, but when I swirl the beer around, the dominant smell I come up with bacon. Who does not love bacon! The taste does not translate, which is good. More on the chocolate, malty side, with a very slight bitterness coming through. Good beer! Would recommend to others!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks Brian! Black pour with a short lasting thin head. Aroma of smoke, dark malts, and bread. Thin, flat mouthfeel. Smoke comes through nicely with a dry slightly bitter finish. I like how the lighter body highlights the smoked malts.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Kinda hate smoked beers so not super excited here. Blackish, 2 finger tan head that isnít going anywhere. Aroma is mostly smoke, not Surly Smoke level, stick your nose in a BBQ smoke, but its strongish. A swirl brings out a bit of hop aroma. Flavor is a combination of so many flavors I hate. None of them are dominant, so its not incredibly offensive, but I donít see any upside in this beer. Palate is fine. This beer was sent as an extra, which is the only reason Iím drinking it. This just isnít my style.
