COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cloaked in mystery, this dark black beer skirts the line between a schwarzbier and smoked porter. The use of a small percentage of traditional Beechwood smoked malt adds complexity and balances the liberal use of chocolate malt. Notes of roasted grains, beechwood smoke and coffee accompany a full bodied and sweet chocolatey malt character. Smoke & Dagger uses locally sourced ingredients. OG 14.5 Plato

500ml bottle in a lager glass. Pours brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of some dark and smoked malts, but also toasted and caramel notes and light floral hops. Flavor a nice blend of the smoked and other styles of malts. Average texture. A pretty good beer for this style.

12oz bottle. Pours a cola-colored brown with a medium beige head. Light, smoky aroma of gouda, and maybe a little fruit. Caramel malt gives a cola-like taste accented by a mild smoky char. Average carbonation. Pillowy mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

This is sort of schwartzbier-ish, I’d say, pushing into porter territory. The level of smoke here is significant but not overbearing. It is just a notch or two past the level where I might believe that level of smokiness can be coaxed out of regular roasted grains. It works pretty well as a compliment to chocolate and coffee flavors otherwise. It’s just a hint sweet and medium bodied. It seems fairly clean from a fermentation standpoint but it’s a bit hard to tell because of all the roast/smoke. If you are into smoked porters, give this a try. It is a pretty decent spin on the style.

Where and how: bottle 12 oz
Aroma: milder in character, hinted with smoke and deep malts. Tad too fruity for such beer.
Appearance :
Top: medium plus cap, mocha, creamy with lace and rings.
Base: light brown into brown.
Palate : medium thinner body, creamy texture with delicate carbonation. Average finish.
Taste: mild smoke up font, mellow pleasant enough session able dark lager. Rauch lovers would say that this one is too mellow.
other notes I like it but this could be done better.

@ Khyber Pass. Medium brown and a bit hazy. Thin head. Light smoke, touch of acidity, bit yeasty... A muddled slightly smoky brew with toasty notes.

Draught @ As Is NYC. Inky black with spongy beige head, caramel aroma, medium carbonation, mocha taste, not really tasting smoke, thick body, medium bitter roasted malt finish. Very smooth and tasteful but did not feel smoked at all.

Pours a rich brown/black from a bottle. Nose of coffee, flavor similar with a nice roasted smokiness toward the end, some vanilla and even toffee notes mixed in a bit. Rather thin and almost cola-y. Good beer, and I’m not a particular fan of smoked beers.

Nice light smoky scent and added to the taste. Vanilla kicks in at the end. A bit of a sour funk also. Feel is a but gritty, but filling. medium brown with a purple brown color. Tap
