Bottle. Sour aroma. Slightly dark yellow colour, white head. Slightly sweet, slightly sour/acidic flavour. Artificial aftertaste of candy.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 imdownthepub (7494) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 1, 2004
Bottled, Cafe Den Billeddefser, Antwerpen. Orange gold with little head. Tart citric half hearted lambic, although beyond the others in the party. Lambic Gueuze shouldn’t always be challeging, so it was quite enjoyable for that. Wood notes on the finish, quite acceptable.
1.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 madsberg (7570) - Søborg, DENMARK - AUG 20, 2004
Bottled: Orange coloured. Dusty. Off white huge head. Lasting. Light sour, but predominant sweet and fruity aroma. Watery, sweet and fruity flavour. Cloying and artificial. Simlply nothing going on in the end. Definately a poor beer. Couldn’t finish this. Drain pour.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 maeib (6645) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - AUG 13, 2004
Bottled. A sour, apply smell to this mid brown lambic. The taste is like a half-hearted attempt at a lambic and is somewhat crude for its style with no quenching qualities. Having said that its a resonably drinkable beer with a pleasant smoky hint to it.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JorisPPattyn (6747) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JUL 4, 2004
Hazy, dirty yellow-brown beer; dirty cream-coloured head, good fine lace. Nose with banana, exotic fruit as guarana (passion fruit), lactic acid, sour-sweet, quite artificial however, Brett, but not in the best possible way. Dry, quite woody taste and again exotic fruit taste. All very positive sounding, but ruined by an artificial & cloying sweet underlying flavour. Some acidity, but again fruit acids, and not naturally tasting. Oh well. Finish is again woody. Cloying thread of sweetness in a further light-bodied beer. The old lambic from Brussels hasn’t helped a lot. Too bad. Would be unrefutably better without this sweetness.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Joeh (2036) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAR 25, 2004
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2005 Bottled. Medium commercial ’gueuze’ that is drinkable, I guess. Not something I would call gueuze though.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Spiesy (2336) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - MAR 10, 2004
Bottled. Foggy amber colour with a thin lacy white head. Sharp aroma. Sweet and sour flavours but quite thin. I’m no expert on the style but the softness of the flavours makes it very approachable.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 diabel (1538) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - DEC 29, 2003
A not very transparant amber colour, with a couple of bubbles. The body looks a little bit watery too. A white, quite rapidly diminshing head. Sour, yoghurt aroma. Quite sour aroma, little sweety in the beginning too. It ends quite sour. I do not find it al bad as others do. I find this a very good gueuze-lambic, in the original interpretation of what a gueuze should be. I was as a matter of fact quite astonished that there exists such good gueuzes in Western Flanders were normally no lambic can be brewn. I am pleased.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Frank (2064) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 1, 2003
Pale orange-brown. rocky head with sparse chunks of lace. Nose is bready with the slightest tang. sour, even for a gueuze, and earthy. slightly metallic. Light fruity notes. Light bodied and a bit astringent. Gueuze-wise, you do much better than this.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 thedm (4126) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 30, 2003
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured all but no head. What head it had was made up of large bubbles. It's body was that of an transparent amber ale and had bubbles rising up the side of the mug. It had an aroma of apple juice with a flat taste and a mild tartness. I was not very impressed with this brew nor would I go out of my way to buy it again.
