The original version, not the Max. Pinkish head and deep cherry red colour, sweet cherry jam in the nose, sugary, cloying but with still some tartness, a bit like Belle-Vue Kriek, by which this is probably inspired. Not even that bad in this particular style, but I will never appreciate the style as such, I’m afraid.

Een middelmatige kriek. Het is niet slecht, maar er zijn er wel betere op de markt.

25 cl bottle from Matkroken Stokka. ABV is 4,5%. Clear sparkling ruby colored body with a small pinkish peach colored head. Pungent fresh cherry aroma with hints of almonds on the nose. Sweet and fruity to drink with lots of sweet cherries and a cereal finish. Medium bodied. Not the most complex kriek, but pleasant to drink in the summer heat.

Kul!

250ml bottle bought at Craftissmo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Cloudy, hazy dark ruby cherry colour with traces of yeast sediments; Less than one quarter finger head and cherry off-white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Good lacing with very slight carbonation; Fragrant sweet and tart aroma of ripe cherry flesh, with perfume, sugar, oaks, red wine, light malt and yeast; Strong sweet and equally tart taste of sour cherry, with malt, strong yoghurt lactic, sugar, strong tannic, wood barrels, light red wine and yeast; Light body, thin and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is kriek limbic with a strong and fruity sour cherry influence. Sweetness is strong fresh fruitiness and very nicely balanced by yoghurty lactic tartness for a just-right palate. Strong presence of tannic and wood barrels, winey and yeasty. Nice! Hoppiness is no nose and moderate lemony taste. Quite strong tannic for abrupt, low astringent finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy and quite crisp to mouth.

Comments: This one has a pretty lively and real ripe cherry aroma, a well balanced sweet and tart cherry taste, strong tannic wood barrel elements and overall slicker and wholesome palate. If the Quite well-made already, and if the sweetness can be tuned down a bit, this one will fly. A decent one!
